Back in the Saddle again

  1. Hey Y'all....

    My bike history:

    78 Suzuke GS750L
    81 Kawasaki KZ750LTD
    85 Yamaha FZ750
    88 Honda Hurricane 1000
    91 Kawasaki ZX-11

After moving to Texas from North Dakota a few years ago and selling my
Ninja, I've languished without a motorcycle for a few years. It was
killing me. So I finally got off my ass and got a bike again.

    04 Honda VTX 1800C

So, years ago, the first year I had my ZX-11 I took the basic MSF
course. I'm thinking about taking the basic course again, riding for 6
months to a year, and then taking the advanced course on the VTX. I
live in Denton county (Lewisville). Anyone taken the course in my area?
Can you recommend one over another?

The last week has been bliss. God I missed 2 wheels.

  2. Yeah, I know the basic course is like $180. I don't figure it's money
badly spent. What do you mean about the receipt and riding lidless? Am
I ignorant of some Texas law that says that if I want to ride without a
helmet, I have to take the basic course?

  3. Wow...and here I thought I lived in part of America. :) I actually
pretty well always wear a helmet anyway. Thanks for the tip.

  5. Thanks Brutha! :) I'm as suprised as anyone that I have a V-Twin.
Funny story, a very good buddy of mine that I used to ride with back in
Fargo...when we rode together, he had a Shadow 1100 and I had my ZX-11.
Now, years later, I have a VTX and he has an FJR. But I was THINKING
about the FJR and he was THINKING about the VTX. I guess great minds
    think alike.... LMAO

  6. When I took it the first time I had been licensed for a few years
already, and was riding to the class on a ZX-11 at the time. It was
pretty funny. They mostly had those little 250 honda hawks, but they
also had a VTR250 Interceptor. Since I was showing up on the big Ninja,
they put me on the "powerful sport bike." LMAO

This last week has been all the riding I've done with about 20 minutes
of exception in the last 6 years. I just figure a brush up on the
    absolute basics can't hurt.

Someone mentioned that you have to take the MSF course to be "allowed"
to ride without a helmet in Texas? Does EITHER count? I don't have my
card or anything from when I took the class *mumble*teen years ago.

  7. I missed the part about insurance...helps to read carefully. LOL I
have major medical coverage, so I'm good. But I think I'll apply for
the sticker anyway. Makes life easier.

  8. Upon investigation, that's what I got as well. Thanks for the
clarification. Fortunately I always carry my insurance card. Not that
I ride sans melon bucket too often, but every now and then I whip over
to the corner grocery without gearing up.
