I'm not one to preach about safety equipment. While I do have leather
trousers and uber-chunky boots I only wear them when I'm in the mood.
TPH I normally turn up for work with jeans and Dr. Martins. I use the
back protector most of the time when going to/from work but don't get
stressed if I can't be bothered to reach up and take it off the hanger
before I put the jacket on.

Mine is made by Held I think, didn't notice any benefit or problem
from it when I crashed at Cadwell.
I'd tend to agree with that, they do feel restrictive and I never feel
comfortable when wearing one but on track at least, that feeling goes
    away once you;re out there.

I don't usually wear one for road riding mainly due to that
restriceted feeling as well as the "indestructible" feeling you get
when leathered and armoured up. A feeling of vulnerability is a good
    speed limiter I think. :) [1]

Having said all that, no back protector would have made a difference
in the crash that damaged my back - that was purely down to a sudden
    sideways movement similar to whiplash.

Hello man, how's life, long time no see.

Back protectors help if you come down the right way on them or slide
spine 1st into a kerb or the likes. In much the same way as shoulder
armour helps if you land on said shoulder but not much if you twat your
    knee.

FJ, went through GLF's range of BP yesterday. The blonde eventually went
for one of lasy years KNOX race style, the black and silver ones that
cover the shoulder blades and come round your kidneys. Same as mine
    akcherly.
Graham doesn't stock them but I'd look at the Dainese types with hard
interlocking plates too, the resist bending in the wrong direction.

  11. The testing was conducted for research purposes by the test institute
concerned. I was informed of their observations in a coffee break
conversation at a standards meeting. A brand name was mentioned, but I
    have never repeated it.

Well the morphine and anti-inflammatories are holding the pain in
check most of the time, and I'm still wearing the frame for my spine
when not lying flat, which probably helps some too. But it's easy to
pull something and aggravate it for a few hours, so I just have to
take it easy all the time.

I'm up to about an hour and a half standing/sitting before the weight
on the spine gets too much. Steadily improving, but easy to overdo it
    and go backwards, IYSWIM.
