Occasionally I get bad vibes through the GS's left handle-bar...

I was told yesterday that by filling my handle-bars with silicon gel
that the vibes would be dampened out... Any knowledge or thoughts on
    this appreciated...

  3. I'd be wary about putting something like that in my bars, just in case
it made a mess or couldn't be removed.

You could try sand, or fine lead shot. Likely to be more effective as a
    damping agent, too.

Google for a product called Barsnake.

Owen came up with the following;:
I'd rather cure the source than the symptom. Not that I can help much ...

Eek, pitched into a bend and all the shot slides into the downwards
bar. Could make for interesting handling with all the weight on one
    side of the bar !

Err, why would it do that? The forces on the lead in the bar would be
more or less the same as those on the bar and the rest of the bike,
i.e. acting in the plane of the bike, not vertically downwards.

Oh, I dunno, I was asleep during planar and vector forces. And the
effects of centripital force are mostly lost on me when it comes to the
    effects on a bike's handling.

All I know is, if I took my hands off the bars mid bend, i'd fall off,
    largely due to gravity.

You know wrong. In fact without the countersteering forces holding the
bike in the lean it would sit up and go straight. Of course, you might
fall off _then_ if the road carries on round the bend...

    As Pip said, Barsnake.

You could also try gel grips (cheaper), or gloves with a gel insert
    (though they'll probably feel odd).

The mood i'm currently in I might just do that.

Can I replace the bucket of water with a brick though ? ;-)

I'm not explaining very well... On 3 occaisions I have got a
numbnessy-pins and needles thing in 2 fingers of my left hand. This
was accompanied by a whitening of the said digits and a loss of
feeling. I'm assuming that it was caused by vibes... I can't feel any
uncomfortable vibes but most bikes give certain vibes at certain
revs... I might investigate that barsnake thing. I was wondering
weather there was a cheaper option...

Sand... excellent idea, I'll let you know how my trails go. Thanks for
    that...

This touches on a couple of comments in another thread on Raynaud's
syndrome. Not always primarily caused by hand arm vibration. Can be an
arthritis type condition, but will certainly be exacerbated by vibey
    handlebars.

If you can't feel a definite buzz through the bars I would check out the
medical side as it can be a predictor of autoimmune rheumatic disease.

    Get googling.

An interesting motorcycle slanted HAV site here:
    http://www.archerscompany.com/handlebars/handlebars_hav.htm

Reduce vibration by prevention at source, damping or isolation. All
    three methods have been suggested.
