Someone offered me a free ticket for The Wall at the O2 last night, and
    I didn't go.

Apparently it was rather good, with the original lineup (bar one of course).

Fuckwit! Although IME the O2 is a fucking nightmare to get to/from.
Yeah, so I saw from a mate's Facebook update.

Pip will be along shortly to rub your nose in it.

I could've gone Tuesday or Wednesday (I forget which). I'm kinda glad I
    didn't now.

Wednesday - that was the opening night. We went. It was good.

The friendly man in the ticket office suggested a neat way round, which
we employed (and will again). Get on the Jubilee Line early, get off at
the O2. POP. The congestion getting back on the tube was horrific,
mind - and I hate having to walk for miles to get in to the venue, but
that's the price one pays for such a big venue, I guess.
Once in a generation experience, the like of which I won't see again.
Waters is a tosser, not frontman material, but the show itself was
    humungous. Excellent.

    Twat. I'd have gone again.
    Original lineup? Bar one? Nah.

Syd's dead, baby. Rick's dead too. Mason wasn't playing, but Gilmour
was supposed to turn up for one night, just to play Comfortably Numb -
which Snowy White did on Wednesday, very competently, playing from a
hydraulic lift behind the wall so he appeared to be perched on top of
the wall. Spotlit, backlit, hair flying in the breeze, he looked and
sounded every inch a God of the Guitar.

I'd have paid extra to see Gilmour do it, though.

    Indeed.

My review: The stagecraft, technical wizardry and the show overall was
fantastic, magnificent - and we'll never see its like again.

Waters, I felt, was poor. He had 'politicised' the show, taking it
from the story of 'Pink' (a reflection of Waters) into the anti-war,
anti-government, anti-big business kaleidoscope that we saw last
    night.

It was all about The Wall and the projections, and I felt the music
slipped into two dimensions, behind that very wall. It was involving
and fascinating to me, but not in the way that Aussie Floyd were, with
life, enthusiasm and pure unalloyed enjoyment in playing music to an
enthralled audience. Waters was on a massive ego trip, signing off
before his retirement with a final thrash - but he seemed scripted and
unenthusiastic as if he'd over-rehearsed, was tired, or hadn't taken
the right drugs before getting out on stage.

Great show, rather ordinary leading man, band pushed firmly into the
    background. Audience strangely distant.

Mason played on the encore last night, at least according to a friend's
    comment on Facebook.

A lucky escape. More wailing than The Wailing Wall.
That band really went downhill after 'Obscured By Clouds'.

I'm familiar with the album, Bruce. I hadn't realised that you were
    present on Wednesday night, though.

Perhaps you missed my point: Waters is not a good front man. He
(perhaps) cannot, (certainly) did not engage with the crowd in any
    significant way.
