Bandit 1200 - Snot oiller.

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by toad_oftoadhall, May 16, 2006.

  1. Are the threads in the back of the carbs (ususally for carb balancing)
that you 'plug' the 'suck tube' from the snot oiler into 6mm jobbies?

Please excuse lack of English skills and vocab in this post!

Yup. Use the balance points for the vacuum pickup.

Look at the Scottoiler website, ffs.

"All Bandit 1200's and all post 2000
600's: There is a vacuum pipe from the
RHS of the right hand carburetor going
to the fuel tap on the LHS of the bike, as
    shown in the third picture.
Cut into this pipe and insert the T-Piece
from the Scottoiler Kit. Then press the
Damper Elbow, part number 4, onto the
    third leg of the tee."

That would infer that no interference with the plugs is required,
rather using the standard technique of cutting into the vacuum pipe
    and teeing off it.
    SOP for you.

Now, about that threaded 'plug'. 6mm is it? [1]

[1] I'd rather unscrew than cut.

No it bloody well wouldn't. You may infer, the article can only
    imply.

    You really should know better.

  6. That's what I'm planning to do. Are they 6mm?

Fucked if I know. Go and measure it.
    Why?

  9. Yup. Looks like that's what I'll be doing.
    1) When I sell the bike I'll keep the snotoiler and will have to bother
go out and buy/order/wait for a fual tap vacuum tube.
    2) I'd need order and wait for the t piece whereas I already have a 6mm
    fitting.
    3) Cutting and joinging _feels_ like a bodge to me.
    4) The 6mm fitting will save me a _small_ amount of time balancing the
    carbs.

Hardly an overwhelmingly compelling case, but it's my bike. YMMV.

    1. There should be a pipe joining piece in the Scottoiler kit, for
    re-joining purposes.
    2. There should be a T-piece in the Scottoiler kit.
    3. Standard way of connecting.
    4. Can't see that, really.
    Off you go, then.

    Dunno, never owned a Bandit.

You can cut the vacuum take-off pipe going to the fuel tap and insert the
T-piece then the thingy that goes to the feed unit, or use the vacuum
take-off points for carb balancing. IIRC, Scottoiler supply the brass
widget that screws in to the take off if stubs aren't already fitted.

Personally, I'd rather use that than cut, but I had to cut'n'shut on my
Transalp as both take-offs are in use already. Not had a problem in the
19,000 miles since I fitted it.

It doesn't matter which way you choose to do it, just follow the
instructions for the rest of it and enjoy a permanently dry looking yet
    adequately lubed chain.

12,000 miles and only had to adjust the chain once. It got through two
chains ( one, the original, lasted 5,000 miles, which I thought was shyte.
Its replacement lasted 7,000 with the Scottoiler. In defence of the second
chain, it cost £12 and was non O-ring )

  12. The Snotoiler is off my previous bike and has neither.
Well I was finding it harder to think of good reasons by the time I got
    down to 3 & 4.

Contact through the website and they can post you a selection of these
small parts for very little money.
Or if you can get to an autojumble, they are often rattling around in small
    plastic containers.

I yanked the cover off the ickle pipe you attach carb balancers to and
used the standard pipe...works fine and no carb probs.

Will you ****. Get a joiner piece which is just like the "T" piece but
missing the third leg. Available from all good DIY places for about tuppence
    apeice.

Get a "T" piece from the same shop as the inline joiner. Only another
    tuppence my son.
It's only a vacuum. So long as it's tight, it's not a bodge.
You can hook up the T" pice to a vac tube in about 2 seconds.
    Indeed.
