I was going to look at the black one in this ad http://tinyurl.com/yyqbsry tomorrow but he sold it tonight. What about the red one? Is 45k nothing on a 600 Bandit engine? -- Malc Rusted and ropy. Dog-eared old copy. Vintage and classic, or just plain Jurassic: all words to describe me.
Spend the extra 300 quid on the black one, it looks very tidy. The red one has got worn paint under the black patches on the sidepanels and is a bit rougher, more than 300 quid rougher and 4 years older in my book.
Dunno, depends how hard the 45K miles have been and how regularly it's been serviced. Does he have a stack of receipts and bills for work done ? I liked mine, but it only had about 26K miles on it when I sold it ... for the Blackbird [1] Paul. [1] A small step up in power
Yes but the black one has been sold as I explained. -- Malc Rusted and ropy. Dog-eared old copy. Vintage and classic, or just plain Jurassic: all words to describe me.
Mine's at 40K right now - it's spot on as far as I can tell. <Looks at notes> I bought it at 33K - fitted a snotoiler and the chain doesn't require any adjustment yet.
It's nothing on the engine but the rear shock will be fucked as will be the steering head bearings, the swinging arm bearings, the wheel bearings, the discs, the seals in the brake calipers, the clutch plates, the fork seals, the seat, the sprockets (probably) and a host of other little cash drains. Buy one with lower mileage unless it's very cheap and then only buy if you're a competent home mechanic.
There is a name for it, other than 'sad ****' when it comes to numbers. My bikes speedo recorded 56789 miles at 10:11 today. The discs are close to the minimum thickness, the swinging arm bearings are a bit wibbly, the head bearings are brinnelled to **** and back ( one of my least favourite jobs to do, so I've riding round the issue for a while ). It has had new front wheel bearings, new caliper seals, new exhaust headers as the only bit of mild steel in the exhaust went on holiday. It has had a new clutch. The seat is fine though, as are the rear wheel bearings and the suspension bearings. I clean and regrease the suspension bearings every year. The Hagon shock has now done about 40,000 miles and is still fresh. I change the front fork oil every year. The Hagon front springs have yet to take a noticeable set. The engines are extremely reliable. The ancillaries less so. +1 for that.
Yeah it depends whether you want to just ride it or work on it. I don't really like the 600's, they seem heavy and stodgy and rather buzzy to me but better and lower mileage seem to be about a grand and up.
