I have one of those little pocket change-holders that you see the old
gimmers use.. little flat thing with a flap that opens up to tip the
    change out onto..

A purse is often made of leather, has a clasp and looks dainty. A wallet
is often made of fabric or manly leather, and folds over once with room to
bulge for you wad, and looks manly.

I have one too. I keep small change in it to pay for stuff when I can,
and bigger coinage goes into a pocket in the car so I don't get stuck at a
    parking meter with no change.

Similarly, women have handbags and blokes have laptop carriers.

  7. Ok, where's the Sutton Luddite and what have you done with him?

I've had strange ideas in the past, but I can't believe that was one of
them. I might have been cautious with my details back in the luddite
days, but to send them in separate emails is just plain daft. If someone
can grab one email, they can grab the other.

You must have mis-remembered. You are getting on a bit now.

When I moved house 3 years ago, clearing out the old place I found what
turned out to be nearly £100 in loose change. With the machine taking 7%, at
the rate I was on over summer I'd have had to sort and count the lot in under
9 minutes to justify not using the machine.

You might want to look ahead on that. I think they're limited to about
2.5K, or at least there was some limit around that last time I tried
moving that kind of sum around.

I regularly transfer sums of >5K between bank accounts by online
banking - never had a problem.

Individial banks have different policies depending on the destination
account. With the banks I deal with internal transfers are usually
unlimited; transfers to an account with a different bank but in your own
name are limited, varies bewteen £3k & £10k. Transfers to third party
    accounts sometimes have lower limits.

It's not the amount as far as I can tell, well certainly not for my account.
The main issue I suspect with online banking re buying either a car or bike
is that it goes via BACS and takes 3 days. Not something I'd really want to
do for a private seller and without seeing the car/bike etc.

Not at all. Until recently, I had a wallet which was a decent size and had a
coin pocket. Not being able to find a proper replacement, I've had to switch
for a change in the pocket approach.

You don't know the half of it ole son. I heard summat on the wireless
last night about Blur being dead serious when he trotted out that line
lifted Regan Book of International Diplomacy, "You are either with us
100% or an enemy of state and we are coming for you in either event."
It is all rather chilling really. Still I'll prolly be dead in a few
    years so I don't give a toss.

I tried to get 1600 out of my account over the counter and was
subjected to a prolonged interrogation as to what I wanted my own money
for. Which tends to piss me off, as it's not spotty yoof's business
what I do with my hard-earned, but the gubmit makes it so.

Paying 10k into your account if your a private individual (not a
dealer) will trigger a money laundering investigation in 99.9% of all
cases as it's way above the threshold that I'm aware. Plus the
guidelines regarding money laundering reporting are so vague that
pretty much every cashier who wants to keep is job will flag such a
transaction just to cover their arses "just in case". Not that the
customer will ever notice it (at least initially) because spotty yoof
    isn't allowed to give him a hint[1].

I may be a tad more paranoid than the next man but as someone who has
to regularly partake in such jollies as anti-money laundering training
I'm only too painfully aware of how restrictive cash transactions have
    become in recent years.

[1] AFAIR that'll be up to five years free food & lodging otherwise.
