For the uninitiated, this was the last-gasp roadster model that used the
old SOHC Honda 125cc lump (trail bikes used the engine for some years
    after, though).

The RS was an absolute corker. It had CDI ignition, air forks, a
box-section swinging arm, accelerator pump carb, hydraulic disc brake,
and it went like stink: 75mph was about top whack. And it did well over
100mpg. I tested one in 1982, and loved it.

Can't believe I got this one as cheaply as I did: I had a snipe set up
for £100 more than the eventual selling price.

That's stunning. I always wanted one of those when I had my GP100. [1]

What? A Honda 125 sans pushrods? What *is* the world coming to?

You really are missing the point about lightweights in general.
Lightweights are FUN in town. Bigger bikes belong on the open road.

Where does he mention anything about fun or lightweights not being fun
in town? The post was about the disparity in bike prices with regard to
    the engine size and year.

  8. I quite agree with him. Absolutely silly money is being paid for cheap
learner-legal bikes. My SL125 went for £800, for example.

It's simple supply and demand and (in this case) the classic factor. The
last CB125RS I saw on Ebay (and they're very rare birds) made over £700.

I'm extra chuffed at winning this, because I had been preparing to buy
    this one:

    140270659407

And had set up a snipe for similar money, but as you see it's already
gone way over that. Nice bikes, the CB125Js, but the RS is slightly
faster, looks better, has CDI ignition and above all, doesn't have a
    cable front disc brake.

  9. Erm, older than that, you know. 1984 model, so nearly a quarter century.

No. Didn't dawn on me until after I'd won it. He's collecting it for
me, though, as it's only five miles away.

OK, if he couldn't have collected it I could do the honours with my
trailer. Nowhere to put it under cover though until I get my new shed
    constructed,

After 25 years i am used to TOGs horse trading and swapping bikes but
this one takes the biscuit. This truely was the steal of the year. It
was a model that did not show on my radar but it really is very nice
    for a 125.
Full set of tax disks, the original Honda Warrenty plastic "credit
    card".
Its 24 years old and still has that new smell. Nicely chained up in
    the garage awaiting collection.

BROWNZ you really want this one to re capture your youth.

  17. According to Boxerboy, indeed it is. I'm utterly bemused as to why it
went so cheaply. I can only think that 95% of watchers/bidders didn't
actually know what it was, and the other 5% who did know simply forgot
    about it.

I thought the RS had CDI ignition, but in fact it's still points. What
it does have is 12v electrics, which is nice. I've just won a dealer
brochure/spec sheet on Ebay for a couple of quid, too.

Looking forward to having a thrash on it. Dunno why, but I have a
*massive* soft spot for all Honda four-stroke 125 singles[1]. I've
owned, oh blimey, maybe a dozen over the years.

[1] Including the CG, of course[2]
