Battery: an encomium

It is with great sadness that we announce that Battery may not survive
    the winter.

Battery was supplied with a brand new Ducati 750SS in October 1997,
and his survival into his tenth year and 28,000th mile has already
    surprised many.

Battery himself did not expect to live this long. He is proud to have
outlived Chain and Sprockets, and their successors. It has come as a
surprise to him that Clutch and even Brake Pads have shown greater
    longevity.

Battery has always been kept fit by his loyal friends Alternator and
Regulator/Rectifier, both of whom are still active. Others have been
let down by these comrades, but not our Battery. However, he still
remembers with bitterness the betrayal of Spark Plug.

This winter, though, looks like being Battery's last. The recent cold
snap led to an embarrassing discharge, and not even Charger could
bring him back to full health, leading one to conclude that his
    illness is, indeed, Terminal[1].

The final indignity was that today, despite a good long 80-mile run
two days previously, he could not wake up Engine, who had to suffer
    the indignity of a push-start.

Nevertheless, he has been a good and faithful servant and if the
weather warms up, he may enjoy another few weeks or months of service.
    Thank you.

    [1] Sorry about that.

"Encomium is a Greek word which, in a general sense, means the praise of a
person or thing. While keeping this general meaning, "encomium" also names
several distinct aspects of rhetoric: * A general category of oratory * A
method within rhetorical pedagogy* A figure of speech. As a figure, encomium
means praising a person or thing, but occurring on a smaller scale than an
    entire speech."

I had to look it up...

Bless. Can you not find lighter duties and sort of put Battery out to

Workshop door stop, that sort of thing.

If it was a cell door then Battery could possibly accumulate a bit of
    self-respect.
