Battery and alternator load

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Whinging Courier, Oct 29, 2005.

  1. Right, the battery on my bike is 14Ahr but I'm thinking of fitting an
accessory that is rated at 20amps. I'm only going to be giving it short
blasts of a few seconds at a time but how likely am I to **** the
    battery/bike/anything else?

I appreciate the answer is "quite likely", but hey, this is one
motherfucker I just *have* to have <EG>

    P.S.
Will the fitting of a relay help?

You'll need suitably heavy cable & fuse direct from the battery,
preferably using a relay to avoid burning the switch contacts.

Shouldn't do any damage to the bike unless it catches fire due to low
capacity wiring - is it a *LOUD* horn?

Thanks for all of that. I've got some phat wiring should the need arise
although I'm hoping some will be included.
    Heh, rumbled.

I haven't decided /which/ one yet, but it's deffo going to be *one* of
    these motherfuckers!

Right, for everyday use, I thought either the "Big Blast Horn" here:

    http://www.top-gear.net/products.asp?u=464891N90400.9540727735&deptid=
    121

or the "Twin Air Horn - External" on page two[1]

Those are great and all but for general stupidity I'd *really* like a
    set of either of these:

    http://www.top-gear.net/product.asp?u=464891N90400.9540727735&pnid=204
    &deptid=148

    Or

    http://www.top-gear.net/product.asp?u=464891N90400.9540727735&pnid=199
    &deptid=148

The first one is better VFM but the second sounds better IMHO.

I change my mind more often than a tart changes her hair so tomorrow it
could be something else[2] but I really do like those musical ones -
Heh, "The Godfather's" not bad but not nearly bonkers enough.

[1] Sorry, I would link to the sounds but for love nor money, I cannot
find the source, closest I can get is the location of the speaker icon.

[2] I've also got some new beer to try.

Just the low tone one was fucking impressive on its own.

    <googles>

In fact it was identical to this one...

A while ago, some **** posted a url for a page full of redneck pickups
'equipped' with *hyuuge* horns - horns that filled the bed of the
truck in a couple of cases. Fucked if I can find that page now,
    though.

    Nice!

The others are a trifle large and would add at least 25% to the weight
of the bike, not to mention the awkwardness of fitting.

I suppose the rear wheel could be taken out and have a sprocket welded
to the end of an air tank, thus making a rat-road roller but how on
earth would you get the tank to turn whilst still supplying air to the
pipes for the horn to work?
