Anyone got any advice for a 10 day Bavaria tour?
    See/avoid places etc...........

Up to now we plan on visiting Chitty Bang Bang castle and getting very drunk
watching the World Cup in pubs.
    Will be camping and B&B.

    Thanks.

    PS.
We don't want to do more than 2000 miles, Calais to Bavaria to Calais.
    OR
    Any other ideas?
All we have booked is Channel Tunnel 10 days in June.

    It is June 2006.

You need to hire a Project Manager, or your Grand Design will never
    materialise.

1.Don't miss the other castle, Hohenschwangau, doesn't get the
    same(enormous) crowds.
    2. A nice day out, get the cable car up walk down the mountain, lunch at the
pub on the way down. Marked route with safety wire and steps.

3.Nice bike circuit(pretties) south end of Walchensee east through
Jachenau(used to be a small toll IIRC)

  5. (Apols for terrible schpelling in advance, I've just burnt my right hand -
    don't ask).

Spend a couple of days in Munich.
The Food & Beer is marvellous.
Hofbrauhaus/Augusteiner Braustuben being my two faves.

The Deutches Museam is an amazing place.

Dachau is worth a guided visit.
I can totally vouch for radius tours, the guide was superbly knowledgable
and one of those people that you can just sit and listen too for hours.
    http://www.radiusmunich.com/tours/dachau-concentration

As others have mentioned, Lindau / Lake Constance is well worth a visit,
    lovely in the summer.

I'm going to be at the Nurburgring for a week from the 17th of June, I'm
currently trying to beg / borrow / steal a ticket for Eng vs Sweden in
    Cologne on the 20th.

According to mappy.fr Calais-Konstanz (as in, Lake Constance) is about
850kms. So that's about 1000-1100 miles there and back, with plenty to see
within a couple of hundred miles.
    It'll be crowded down there.

  9. At Lake Constance, aka the Bodensee, there is the Zeppelin museum.
    That's where they were built.

One of my heroes is Dr Hugo Eckener[1], and if I ever get to the
Bodensee, that museum is on my list of must-sees.

Friedrichshafen, to be precise. Not too far from another

    and it's sister town Dinkelsbuehl

The other three Ludwig castles (Hohenschwangau is right next to
    Neuschwanstein)

Berchtesgaden - hitler's pied a terre in the alps

    not forgetting

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Würzburg

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich

You should be able to do that in under 2000 miles

  14. err, the nordschleife was mentioned after the passage about Lindau etc

So following that, and the OP mentioning round ball game watching in bars in
DE, I think I can get away with that.

I wish the Ring *was* just outside Munich though, you wouldn't see me for
    dust if it was !!

Good Beer, Hearty Food, De-Ristricted Toll Road...... bliss. (not all at the
    same time obviously).

Spoke to a friend in Munich last night - the weather there is atrocious
at the moment. Like the temperature not getting above 6C and stuff like
    that.

    Blimey.

Munich is a lovely place. July is fantastic with the beer gardens. The
winter's pretty good too 'cos it gets properly 'wintery' with decent
amounts of snow. I'd like to go back again soon, but maybe not until
    the weather gets better.

It's odd, the weather in Dusseldorf seems worse than the weather in the
UK. I'm really not used to this, but I'm not complaining.

    cut through the rock.
