Great fun - I was there on German Unification Night. To say I got
    shagged silly is an understatement.[/QUOTE]

Yup, must have been a fun night to be sure

  2. I'm surprised they let that alone, but old AH didn't use it much, if at
all. I'm not sure if it's the only one in the area, and I'm wondering if
that's the one that featured in the Bond movie OHMSS.

    Must have a google later.

  3. I believe that was someplace in Switzerland, but my brain's lost the
    location.

Yes, it was the Schilthorn/Piz Gloria restaurant in Muerren.

    Sure, here you go! Avoid:
    1) Bavaria
    That was easy.

Then of course, being not from below there, I might be a bit biased.

  6. Many thanks for that. I'm sure it's come up before somewhere, but
buggered if I can recall it.

<faulty memory alert - what follows might be bollocks>

Istr the Tea House wasn't a NP creation; it was built by a German
businessman in the 30s and when Adolf had the Berchtesgaden built
Bormann persuaded the owner of the Tea House to 'donate' it. Partly
being overlooked and partly access. Bormann expanded and improved the
existing structure and presented it to Hitler, but Hitler wasn't too
    fussed about it.

  7. Greatest moment missed was the opening of the Berlin Wall - in hindsight
I should have dumped everything and got on a plane.

Mein Got but the alchohol gets you at that altitude. Two decent glasses
of plonk and I could barely see the bumps on the run back down.

Heh. You forgot to mention that an ability to communicate in German
doesn't necessarily mean that you're able to communicate in Bavaria...

Ho yuss. My daughter did German A-level and then got a job in a
Bavarian factory. Her first phone call home: "FFS Mum, I might as well
not have bothered learning German, I can't understand a word". Mind
you, by the time she came back, she was trilingual - English, German,
    and Bavarian.

Naah, s'not that high. Try it at the top of Zermatt or Saas Fee for
the real deal. Both around 3900m.
Close your eyes then. What you can't see can't hurt you, after all.
