Quote: Mr Collins added that one in four riders caught speeding in North
Yorkshire turns out to have a criminal record.

Why the **** have they added this to a report on speeding? True or
otherwise, it doesn't reflect the majority - but you know what people will
    now think of us.

I laughed at the scare-mongering "one in four riders caught speeding in
North Yorkshire turns out to have a criminal record."

"Officers say this means there can be no dispute over who was riding a
    speeding motorcycle."

    through my black visor? Uhuh.

"The camera records what the officer sees and stores it on a
    mini-computer."

you'd have thought a laptop or PDA would have been easier to lug around
    than a Vax.

    [of deaths]
""Twelve is still 12 too many," he said, "and each represents a tragedy
whose impact spreads out far beyond the family and friends of the
    deceased."

    simply bollocks.

"Mr Collins added that one in four riders caught speeding in North
Yorkshire turns out to have a criminal record."
this looks like made-up crap too.

    26 down to 12.

I wonder how much the weather has to do with that, rather than any
    particular effort by the police.

I understand that even where cameras take a photo from the front, their
purpose is to identify the vehicle not the rider / driver. Plod rely on the
fact that you see it's clearly a picture of you and then plead guilty. Front
facing cameras have no more value in prosecuting you than a rearward facing
camera. This isn't to say though that the magistrates might bend the law a
bit, if you turned up in court and looked like the person in the photo.

Best not to wear your helmet in court then I guess.

You don't agree that 12 is 12 too many?

Well actually I hit the send button before absorbing what darsy had
written - i stopped at "12 is 12 too many" - but surely 1 is 1 too many.
Or maybe I have completely missed the point.

Biking's a risky game, but down to personal choice. A few may die. but
that's no reason for the rest of us to be stopped from doing what we
    love.

    I think you have.

Almost no activity is without risk. And no amount of speed
enforcement, safety gear, road calming, etc will make travel by
motorcycle 100% safe. Therefore, there will be deaths. The question
is, how many is acceptable. Given that I'd like to claim
responsibility for my own life, I don't want anyone else telling me
that something I do is too dangerous for me.

Of the 12 people who died, none of them should have been riding
without an understanding that they could be killed doing it. Once
that is accepted, then, imo, no number is "too many".
