There's a report on how the long hot summer has taken it out on the
region's motorcyclists soon. I'll report back on what they say.

It didn't really draw a conclusion. One argument was that the recent hot
weather has bought more bikers onto the roads hence more accidents. You
draw your own conclusions. I commented in a post a few days ago it seems
every few days a biker is reported killed.

It must be a very long report.

IMO that's a far better conclusion to draw than "Speed/bikes are dangerous,
    let's ban 'em"

Whinging Courier fascinated us all by saying...
It was crap, it drew no conclusions, apart from they think that the high
rate of casulaties is related to the greater number of bikes out because
of the nicer weather. Like ...D'uh, even my youngest kid could have
    worked that out.

....and so do car drivers. And pedestrians. And others. It's not nice
and I *really* hope it doesn't happen to me but shit happens. If we
didn't die then it'd be standing room only.

It was an utterly blatant scaremongering piece of crap.
The report did not mention speed, power and size of bikes involved,
experience of riders who'd crashed, involvement of other vehicles, sites of
accidents...nothing. Not even how bad the accidents had been.
I was very annoyed watching this. But I couldn't be arsed to protest to the
BBC. Maybe now I will )

Wouldn't the interesting statistic (if there is such a thing) be the deaths
    by miles covered one?

With the increase in riders and riding, the mileage will have increased,
therefore the accident rate is probably exactly the same.

Still, 21 people in one area in one month is quite a lot.

I thought the report was OK as a news item, 21 deaths in August? Does
    seem high.

I agree, it was a balanced and neutral report.

I thought it was 21 dead so far this year against a total of 20 dead in
the whole of last year, well thats what last nights local paper said.

I hope they at least mentioned congestion charging increasing the number of
organ donars[1] and how they affect the stats?
