Bearing in mind

  1. The stories of others doing silly things, particularly extremely daft
stuff like reassembling the tank and associated plumbing and forgetting
to turn the fuel tap back on, today's little fettle of the carbs on the
GS progressed smoothly and without incident.

Until I went to start it and found out I had forgotten to connect the
    throttle cable.

I am having a little tea and profanity break right now.

Don't feel too bad. I was replacing the throttle cable on my GSX. After I'd
finish the bike wouldn't start. So I stripped the switch down again, then I
saw it. The cut out switch was in the off position.

  3. I don't. Apart from skinning yet another knuckle in the process, which
makes walking hard. I am just waiting for the evening rush to die down
a bit now so I can go out for a little test run.
