If I'd felt like making multiple suggestions then I'd have certainly
said an 850GS but they're already pretty dear and owners seem to hang
    onto them.

I considered getting one for winter jaunts but decided they were a bit
pricey to be abusing like that and went for the K.

I didn't say I was ever going to ride it. Besides, a Gixer 750 engine
will fit if you're brutal enough.

Super bikes if you can take the racing crouch for long. A bit under
powered as standard. My tuned Nordwest engined version (50 BHP at the
back wheel) was great fun, but not original enough to be a collectable
so I parted with it. Some managed to fit factory race kits which didn't
show but gave a useful boost.

What I always regret not buying was a Gilera Saturno Piuma supermono
racing 558. Someone was flogging one ten yeats or so ago at Stafford out
of the back of a huge van load of Italian stuff. Just four grand.
Ah, you too see the error in his logic - at least as far as future worth
    is concerned.

It'll get resurrected a week after he bought it?

Given that apparently only 65 were built I suspect the latter. See my
reply to Gyp about the Piuma. Only 50 of those came out of Arcore just
before the end of production on the site.

  6. The problem with this is that although they probably will reach classic
status within that time there are several parts that are already
unobtanium. Yamaha don't have anywhere near the stock of parts they have
for the 250/350, consequently many possible restoration bikes are just
being broken up. The RD80 is even more of a problem, but they're
already pretty rare and fetching somewhere decent money.

I have no idea what this CB72 I'm restoring is going to be worth, but
the spares prices are pretty scary, I sold a spare chainguard for 50
quid a couple of weeks ago. Still, I never expect to make any money,
this is a hobby. Well it's turning out that restoring might be a hobby
but riding them isn't, I've done about 15 miles on the RD this year,
    despite taxing it.

    <pats 2 Gilera GFR entries in sig>

A happy day today, as the lad and I managed to finish constructing the
new shed and got the roof felt on before it started raining. Now I can
decant a couple of bikes in to there and make space for some serious
    fettling over the winter.

I'd more specifically say the one in the Urban Tiger colours,
    unmodified.

I am amazed, guy must be skint.
