  1. Who said our culture is the right one? We don't seem to be making a
good job of it. They looked after this country better than we seem to
be doing. We're turning it into a dustbowl. Wanna see what gobal
warming and envirionmental mismanagement can do? Just look at what's
    happening here right now.

  7. Serious problem in outback Australia. They've actually developed a new
sort of fuel that doesn't give you the high (and I think might make
you vomit if you t sniffing it, but not sue on that one) and that's
all you can buy in parts ofthe Northern Territory, Western Australia
and South Australia. I believe it is low octane, so don't take your
Ferrari there. Pity though. The Northern Territory has no speed
    limits. Do what you want.

I'll give you both credibility when you lead the way and give up your
warm houses, cookers, mobile phones, cars, bikes and accept a life
    expectancy of 40y.
Oh yes, and you have to take up with an Aboriginal woman
    www.outbackphoto.com/handbook/14_portfolios/ellen_AboWomen.jpg ;o)

You know very well our way of life is much better, but just need to
re-learn care for the environment and energy/agricultural efficiency.

But..... if it has to be 10,000 years living with technology or
10,000,000 living as aboriginies. I know how I'm voting!

The real reason for most of our modern woes. IMHO? Complete failure to
manage population. UK? about 1/3 higher than might be optimim. World?
should be what, about 1/4 of the current total. Assuming you want long
term sustainability and a protected environment/ecosystem

  14. Really? Do tell.

I prefer our culture. But who am I (or you, or anyone) to tell
another culture that is the way they should live? They weren't
impinging on our culture. And they were seriously looking after the
land here a lot better than we are. Research it. White fella man has
fucked the country up here big time. Have you seen pictures of the
dust storms rolling in over the last few months? Adelaide has just
been through a week of 40C+ degrees days. I'm not just talking global
warming here, we've got a local problem and have had for a while.
We've stripped away the native vegetation, put cloven hoofed animals
into a landscape that can't handle it. Let's eat the fucking kangaroos
and get rid of the sheep and beef.

The Murray/Darling system is in saline breakdown due to the salt table
rising as the trees are cut away. It's one of the longest waterways in
the world and it's on its last legs.

This sounds like greenie ranting, but man, moving back to Victoria
after not living here for 22 years gave me quite a jolt.

The original owners of this country knew how to look after they land.
They knew how to use fire to control growth and not let it get out of
hand. Search for Black Saturday Victoria. And we're going to cop it
worse this summer. They are predicting 50C temperatures around
Melbourne. And we are in the south of the landmass. Global warming?
Yeah something to do with it I guess and more to come. Dessication of
the plant life over the last 200 years which lets the NW airstream
    cross the continent, lots.

I am not looking forward to this summer.

While The Man didn't really know WTF I was actually about one must admit
that for a brief beautiful moment in time getting the head straight to
go in and juggle pots of Pu and screaming gamma sources was a minor
challenge for a few of us ;o)

But it was no place for the criminally sane.

  17. Oh for god's sake, you can't be serious.
I agree in a way. I prefer this way of life. But I've never tried
living off the land. Have you? I'm not talking about going bushwalking
    here btw.
Me too. But again, I haven't tried the alternative
Fucking hell yeah, we are way over-populated, globally and Australia
especially. It may be a big land mass, but it is already on the point
of breakdown. But we still seem to want to expand the population.

Like I just said in the thread, modern man has some considerable
re-learning to do in order to maintain our technological lifestyle.
Being a Scot I'm more than familiar with landscape devastation.

Sorry yes I am. TAKE YOUR PICK ;o)
Curiously enough I rather did. It was a long time ago and for a brief
period. It was fucking hard work, especially through the winter, and I
discovered that I was lazy, vain and addicted to technology and girls.
Never been but my limited knowledge is that useful land is the coastal
rim and therefor I can believe population pressure is a problem. But
you would go inviting Asia to come visit.
