Well...a very long time ago, that's for sure. But when they invaded
other populations, murdered the men and boys, but saved the women for
themselves, they probably converted the survivors.

It was, to be fair, a very long time ago.

I rather think that by failing to recognise the danger of peddling
easily disprovable things as true, you are showing _your_ ignorance.

Yes. Very readable and (assuming he's not making it all up) explains a
lot about Islam in the UK and Worldwide.

The only slight problem is that I always assume that if someone's
actions seem 'mad' then it's probable that I just haven't understood
their motives and a little bit of reading explains the pressures and
problems that made them do apparently weird things. In this case I've
just come away thinking "No, they really are mad!".
Exactly, people all over are largely the same. They want to be as
comfortable, wealthy and happy as possible with the minumum hassle and
danger. They are happy to tolerate other people's lifestyles as long
as they can live as they wish. Almost all Muslins would seem to be no
    different to the norm.
LOL. Reading the Islamist the ironies were non-stop. There's a whole
raft of clothing requirements in Militant Islam that have nothing to
do with Islam at all. There are militant Islamist who demand their
followers dress in the traditional garb of Jews and Christians! Merely
because they haven't checked! Some Islamists claim democracy is a
Muslim invention and therefore essential in a Muslim Super State, some
claim it's a western Greek invention and subverts God's authority!
Most UK Islamists can't read the Koran and don't even know how to
pray! Irony on top of irony.

Basically they really are clueless fuckwits.

Wrong question; I don't throw anything out. "Wonder if he'll ever find
them" is the correct question. The answer; I'll get around to looking
once I've done the valves on the sidecar...

    The Adam Curtis doc?

If you haven't also seen his other ones (The Power of Nightmares,
Pandora's Box, The Century of the Self and The Mayfair Set) they're
also well worth a watch and I've got them sitting on a hard disk here.

And Stalin killed more than any religious nutter in history. Was he less
dangerous? Some would argue that an atheist is more dangerous, because they
have no external moral restraint. (I wouldn't.)

I think that anyone who is convinced of their own 'rightness' is equally
dangerous, as I think history demonstrates. Those who argue that it is all
caused by religion are being highly selective.

why did you bring it up then? you actually believe it, but realise that

It's a well known moral code - as promulgated by Dostoevsky in, IIRC,
the Brothers Karamazov, "To he who does not believe in God, everything
    is permitted".
