An individual who wants everyone else to conform to the herd norm?

  2. The herd norm is erratic spelling, incompetent punctuation and clauses
lacking main verb or noun. Pedants want the herd to aspire to better
communication by meeting a defined standard of excellence (grammar).

BB thinks aus.moto is full of pedants. I think she's wrong.

  5. I wouldn't have characterised aus.moto so. Most posters here seem to
    care. You included.

  6. But my point was that the assessors often write down stuff that
_doesn't_ need writing down. The Blackbird was a case in point. There
was a slight mark on one part of the fairing. I told them not to worry
about it. If they keep writing down everything that isn't 100% perfect
the costs go up for all of us. Of course if the frame is fucked then
it is a genuine writeoff. But minor cosmetic damage should not create
    a writeoff.

  8. That's one way of putting it. But yeah, I knew I was going to be
riding that bike 150km a day, rain or shine. It wasn't going to be a
show bike. Yet they didn't bother asking me that. So wrote it off. As
I still had the VFR I was willing to wait a few weeks for repair
rather than the waste of a write-off and its inherent costs. Which is
what happened. Once the Blackbird was back on the road, I sold the
    VFR.

  9. The statutory write off status is attached to the Vin number and hence the
    frame. Not the motor.

  10. People buy whole frames off US ebay for this purpose. I looked into doing it
    myself.

  12. That would be just as problematic as importing a whole bike without an
import licence surely. The VIN from an OS frame would not be
    registerable.

I've seen people do the reverse with low km grey import BMWs from
Japan. Buy the complete bike, buy an Aussie frame. Build the bike
into the Aussie frame and rego is not a problem.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

From my limited research it didn't seem to be a problem here in WA.
