so sometime in august i ordered a new pair of alt-bergs to replace the
ones i've been using very regularly for the last 9 years.

    - no problem, say they, they should be ready in a couple of months.

the boots finally arrive mid december. the size marked on them is
illegible but there's absolutely no way my feet are going to fit into them.
also, they look completely different from the ones i have (and which are
advertised on their website). post them back.

got a call from them today: no, apparently they are size 8, it says so
somewhere on the inside of the sole if you dismantle the things. well no,
say i, size 8 is what all my other footwear is, including these boots you
made me a little while ago, that actually fit my feet. what you have there
is more like size 6, independently of what happens to be written on the
sole. and the style? oh yes, we randomly decided to change the style of
our boots so that they don't correspond to any of our marketing and you
have no idea what you're going to end up with. but they are the same model,
    honest!

a great shame, because these boots are great and it would have been
wonderful if they had been together enough just to make another pair the
same, but no. i'm adding myself to the lengthening list of ukrmers who
won't have anything further to do with them.

I'm amazed you even tried, to be honest. Every Altberg fan seems to
have this Ducati owner-like need to qualify the praise of the product
with an acknowledgement of some inherent shiteness.

Thus a rave review of the boots is then followed with a para saying
    (a) that the wait for them was like waiting for membership of the
Garrick and (b) that the customer service is shite.

  3. They could well be size US 8 , not UK 8 If memory serves me the US
    sizes are smaller

  4. Not quite right. There seems to be a feeling among potential purchasers
that Mr Altberg does indeed make exceedingly fine boots but it also
seems to be wholly not backed up by any evidence in favour of the claim
    whatsoever.

'Course if you then add the above to the non delivery thing then there
will be no adverse comments about the quality either. A marketing
success of gigantic proportions that should have BT apoplexic with envy
    imho.

I've got a pair of little-used size 8 alt-bergs that I'm about to sling on
    ebay. Wanna try them on?

I was happy enough with my original order ~5 years ago and the
subsequent rebuild ~2 years ago after being punted off. I'd be more
wary now about placing an order after reading some of the comments
here. it seems the rot set in sometime less than 2 years ago.

I checked my handy-dandy converter and it said they were the same size.

    <rummages under bed for Clarks>

UK 11.5, US 12. Ok, it's a half size different.

    4ax.com:

and all pretty useless. One maker's 8.5 rarely matches another's. You'd
think that someone would've invented a 3D shoe size scale by now...

I found that the shoe size differs from year to year with the same
    manufacturer in the same style.

I meant the actual shoe, not feet.

I had one pair of shoes that fit well and I really liked them. I bought
another pair of the same style and size a year later with out trying
them on. They were shorter than the old pair.
