ha, my Land Rover SIII had separate vents for driver and passenger, or
just drop the windscreen, for the full fly swallowing experience.

Need to relieve yourself or defecate on the move ? [1] No problem,
just pull up that loose floor plate and watch the tarmac moving past
    under the chassis ....

A bit like South West Trains now, but 20 years ago ...

[1] Probably more relevant for the passenger than driver.

    <chuckles>

Could well have been rand ere <Norf Lundin>.

I sorta miss seeing the triangular scorch marks on the tarmac and the
three rolls of wire where the tyres used to be. ;-)

  3. Of course they thought about it, just didn't do it.
Ford costed every car down to the nearest penny and the saving of
several million pennies by installing cheapy footpumps added up.
Only a few years later, electric pumps were standard - the pumps had got
cheaper, plus buyers wanted it and Ford's purchasing power added to the
    cheapness.

I had one of their small tachos in my Morris 1000, plus a small Smiths
clock, both mounted high on the dash in pods, with small lights fitted
which flashed in tandem with the indicators.

    Happy days

    They were the badgers.
    Yup, ta. ;-)
I think they were, especially as they were me (a fettler).

For most people in those days, 'tuning' consisted getting yer vehicle
running nicely or better, or adding extras that actually made your
life easier (like delayed wash wipe or a heated rear screen), not just
(badly) bolting on a length of chrome drain pipe as an exhaust or
fitting enough music power to fill Wembley.

But then I believe many more of us had the skills (and interest) to do
    such things then.

Most of the vehicles I've ever had have been bought cheap as
fixer-uppers or were hand_me_downs from friends and family. I can't
think of one that didn't then go on to provide sterling service for me
or someone else. The MZ Saxon Tour was half burnt out in a shop fire
and 70,000 km later is daughters first real bike and takes her to work
    and back every day. ;-)

I have had a couple of vehicles I hardly touched though ... and fairly
clean s/h XT350 and ironically the REB 350, but then I only did about
    5000 miles on each.

Now I've got the re-chromed forks back for the GPZ550 I may even get
round to getting that back on the road. ;-0
