From Wollongong heading to Qld. I guess time will be approx 4.30am to 5.00
am so traffic should be no problem.

Would it be best to take Route 6 up to Pennant Hills Road ( never travelled
that way so no idea ) ?

Normal route takes me past the airport and along Southern Cross Drive and
uses the tunel but last time I got slighly lost as things had changed....

In all honesty in the car I go to the Gong a bit from Port - we go via
the M2 and M7. Little out west but way better than all that stop-start
garbage and traffic lights. You can book to pay the M7 online (it has no
toll booths) but the M2 you have to stop at a booth. Personally it's
    worth the few $.

At that time of the morning I'd go the way you've been going, head straight
through the harbour tunnel, out the other side and up the Pac Highway. Yes,
there's a few lights on the Pac Highway, but that's about it.

I followed the #1 from Hornsby down to Wollongong a month or so back in
mid-morning and was surprised how well the traffic flowed. Much quicker
and less frustrating than trying to follow the Cumberland Hwy around the
    outskirts.

Head for Windsor then the Putty to Singleton, Dungog, Gloucester, and the
wonderful Thunderbolt's to Walcha, Armidale, the Waterfall Way to Ebor,
Grafton, the Summerland Way to Casino, Kyogle, bypass Nimbin to
Murwillumbah, Numinbah Valley, Advancetown, Nerang and then up the M1 to
    Brisbane.
Or; if you want an INTERESTING way there's....

Have done that route before :)

But this is a group of bikes heading up to the GC for a week of breaking as
many of the 10 commandments as possible so basically it will be a quick trip
    up.

Well I have quite a few options now and interesting google maps suggest
across to Piction and then M2 / M7 as Yeebok suggests

You get 24hrs to pay online, then they send you the toll plus an
"administration fee" then if you don't pay that it goes to the SDRO
and your licence and rego get cancelled if you don't cough up.

Erk; I'd hate to ride a sports-bike at 100kph for 12 hours on a road with
    speed-cameras installed every 100km-or-so!
    Good luck,
    Clem

hey, I have 2 points left on my license and the majority of fixed cameras
    have plenty of warnings.

Anyway just getting some info before we have a meeting to decide things like
    routes / departure times etc

Easy, just follow the Princess Hwy. It turns into King Georges Road and
a few others before it gets to the Pacific Hwy. Then just left onto the
Pacific Hwy and then right onto the F3 about 5 k's later.

No tolls and shit all traffic that early in the morning.
