I presently own a 2002 FZ1, good bike for about anything, but not the
best cornering carver or torque monster, I am after a second bike or
perhaps replacing the FZ1 with a new bike, what I am after is a better
cornering bike and also lighter with more torque I think I am after a
twin this time, I don't mind giving uo some blistering top speed as the
FZ1, I had a SV650s in mind, but i read they need some suspension mods
to make them better handling, I am looking for some suggestions on what
might be a better choice than the SV650S. I was thinking of the SV1000S
but it is not a lightweight compared to the SV650S.

    thanks

  2. Are you sure its not your setup? THere is a good article in a bike magazine
here in Australia about a guy who races one. Says its a real light weight
weapon. I can see what mods he had made if you wish.

  4. I haven't ridden one but I didn't think they are that bad!!

I ride Honda's similar bike, the CB919, which I consider has quite
sporting handling (at least its good enough for me to keep up with my
sportbike riding friends in all but 100mph plus stuff), although
admitedly I did shell out a few extra dollars for Ohlins suspension.

Motor-wise, the Honda is tuned to make power considerably lower than the
Yamaha, (red line is set at 9000) and gives good top gear roll on power
in the 60-100mph range. Beats the new Z1000 hands down for sure (tested)
and from what I have read would probably show the way to the FZ1 in top
gear at these sort of speeds. I traded a Ducati 2 valve twin on the this
Honda because of the Honda's v-twin-like engine characteristics, not
because it was a four, and I found the modern v-twins from Suzuki and
Honda didn't have the Ducati v-twin characteristics I liked so much.

Also price difference is considerable in my market (New Zealand) - FZ1
    at $20,000, Z1000 at $18,000, SV1000 $15000-16000, CB919 $13,000 . . .
(still cheaper than the others even with the Ohlins added).

    cheers
    Steve
