A breaking news report int he Sydney Morning Herald/Age newspapers has
Biaggi breaking an ankle with multiple fractures.

I'm not gonna post the link becaue it's not going to be valid for more
than a day, but the story reads as below.

    Biaggi breaks an ankle
    November 9, 2004 - 8:39AM

Italian Max Biaggi has seen his hopes of winning the
2005 MotoGP title hit by a broken ankle sustained in
    practice.

Biaggi, who has landed a deal to ride alongside rising
American star Nicky Hayden on the Repsol Honda team next
season, could be out for two months.

Biaggi, from Rome, was training near his home ahead of
the Italian World Supermoto round later this month but
has had to pull out of that event because of the injury.

The multiple ankle fractures which Biaggi suffered in
the fall are due to be fixed during an operation in
    Lyon, France.

Despite the injury, Biaggi will not miss too much winter
testing as MotoGP rules mean there is a ban on testing
    during December and January.

Take the "hopes of winning the 2005 MotoGP" with a grain of newspaperial
    salt.

Excellent news for Biaggi... now he has a new excuse!

I don't see how an interruption to his training schedule is going to hinder
his championship hopes further, particularly at this end of the off season.
The bloke has been practising and competing for years at peak fitness and has
never got close to winning the championship. In his 7 years in 500/MotoGP he
has finished an average 96 points behind the championship winner. Maybe if it
had happened two months before the start of the 2005 season.

Does a broken ankle actually stop you from riding? I know I've ridden with a
very badly sprained ankle, in fact I couldn't walk and I couldn't drive my car
but riding the bike was quite comfortable.

Probably wouldn't stop you riding, but the cast might make it hard to
put your boots on and possibly weighting the footpeg on corners
    uncomfortable. YMMV.

    Its true :

Now he can say when he gets beaten by Rossi in 05' its the ankles fault

05' was to be Maxs big "break", he got the full HRC factory ride at long
last [not that he could beat Rossi in a fair fight anyway]

Pedrosa came back rather well from two busted ankles, but then he is always
going to be a genuine contender rather than a pretender/contender.

Maybe the factory team might grab Bayliss just in case?

Actually Magee came back pretty quickly after making a mess of his ankle at
Laguna Seca in '89 after Bubba Shobert collided with him.
He had it plated and screwed and I don't think he missed a race. (He had
already completed the Laguna race before the collision).
