  3. Sorry No Kim,

I purchased the Clubman in Leeds and it came complete with a copper coated
frame ! It looks a lot nicer now with a black frame and an aluminium 4 1/2
gallon tank complete with cut-away for the Concentric's air trumpet.

  4. In uk.rec.motorcycles, prawn belched forth and ejected the following:
    Arse.

I now need to get rid of 2 motorbikes and a car or find somewhere local
that's a bit more four wheel friendly and keep the bikes. Mine dew, I'd
be lucky if that motor pays for a month's rent.

Ah well, it was worth asking.

In those days one could buy a 20-gallon drum of oil from the CSMA; you
could also purchase a tap for it - I've still got mine. But the
filler orifice on top was closed with a sprung metal cover, a bit like
marmalade jars but with the spring effect provided by castellations.

These were a perfect fit for the end of the air-trumpet.

For those not in the know, this kept the carburettor from filling up
with rain-water, while parked up. A bath-plug on a chain was the other
    usual method.

There's a nice Thruxton and a Viper here:

I rather like the idea of a trad Brit 350 single as represented by the
    Viper......

  6. Thirteen Grand for a Thruxton ! I had better get some more security chains
    and up the insurance..

    Luvverly, innit.

    Pity it's sold....
    Any particular reason for that?

I like the look of the Viper, you see....

Mmm I was about to say how nice that little (early) Viper looked. Bit
    more sensibly priced too.

  10. A good Viper tends to be more nippy than a Venom and you can also write off
an Austin 10 if you t-bone it (ouch!)

The only thing I can spot is that I think the exhaust pipe is wrong
for the model, but otherwise it looks fine.

  12. 'Cos according to K/C anyone who does anything with classic bikes hasn't
a clue; except himself, of course. This, despite never once having
posted any proof, photographic or otherwise, to illustrate his knowledge
    or expertise.

Perhaps he's just modest about his achievements, but I suspect it's
because he's a chronic stripper of old shite and can't quite get the
principles of re-assembly into his monkey brain.

  13. Well spotted, the exhaust pipe is from a Clubman. The correct pipe should
have a round curve from the head, not swept back.

Every time I see a pic of a Rocket Goldstar and the prices they're going
    for, I kick myself.

I had one at the back of my Dad's place for years, just sat sitting there
waiting for someone to use it again. Owned it in 1966, but I can't remember
    what year it was made.

Been there, done that. Sold a 1956 Velo MAC for £25 in 1971 :-(
Mate of mine had one, circa '63 or '64. Hugely expensive IIRC; more
than a Mini or 105E Anglia. Went well, though :)

Me and a pal used the Goldie for blasting around fields and dales as our
road bikes were a Tiger 90 (him) and a BSA Spitfire (me). The Goldie was a
**** to start compared to just about any other bike we had access to, so it
was largely ignored. The inability to see into the future isn't a good thing
    eh?

My A35 which followed was cheaper than *any* bike I'd owned or *have* owned.
