    HI.

Even though I try to keep the gixxer clean there is some gunge
building up that I CANNOT remove. What will do it?

What gunge? Inside the white wheels mostly, and over the brake
calipers. Brake dust built up into layers I guess.

I have used two different alloy wheel cleaners, (Simoniz and Mer), car
wash, soap, degreasers, petrol, cola and 'bike cleaner'. There are
still black smears on the forward edge of the wheel spokes and black
dots of various sizes all over the inside of the wheel.

The front is much more effected than the back, reinforcing my brake
    dust theory.

I've considered more severe products such as caustic soda or oven
cleaner but I don't want to do any damage. Would steam do it? I
don't have access to a vehicle steam cleaner but I could pipe steam
    from a wallpaper stripper.

Anyone got a clue to a good way of getting the wheels back to nice
shiney white? Toothpaste and an old toothbrush... hmmm.

    Ta.

Try cheap baby wipes. They seem to dissolve almost anything, and work
really well at getting grease and oil off things.

Wonder wheels, but be careful. Dont let it dry & use the brush quite
    hard.

I've never had anything on my wheels that WD40 wouldn't shift.

  6. Get Hog to come and stare at the dirt. That'll shift it. Alternatively
he could shout at it - just as effective.

TFR. (raffic Film Remover). Spray on, leave it ten minutes, rinse off.
Steam and Suzuki don't really go together.
    TFR.

That was the only stuff that managed to get the crud off the wheels of
the 600 Bandit Adie had off WC.

It had withstood the efforts of various proprietary wheel cleaners,
WD40, petrol and anything else Adie could find. TFR had them clean in
minutes simply by spraying it on undiluted then using a toothbrush to
    scrub the shit away.

One note to reply to all. 'Cos I'm a lazy git.

Thanks for the ideas. Of course, ally and caustic is not a good idea,
    thanks for the reminder.

I'll try WD40, I've got some somewhere. Otherwise I'll go to Halfords
for some of that Traffic Film Remover. Following on from THAT? Hmmm,
    what do pro valeters use?

Been out for a bimble this after. Nice. Warm roads, warm tyres... and
    millions of bloody cars.

You won't get TFR at Halford's. Try a local motor factor - 's where I got
mine. You may have to buy it by the 20L can, mind.

it even got the 9R wheels back to green today.

I'd been scrubbing it with a toothbrush and neat washing up liquid
before that. the only thing prior to TFR was my fingernails and that
didn't get much off before they disintegrated.

    Adie says...
I cleaned Elly's back wheel today, with paraffin and a paintbrush. Came
    up like new too.

For Mike's Gixer wheels I used to use Clarke Alloy Wheel Cleaner from
Machine Mart. I used it neat straight out of the spray bottle, scrubbed
it in with a stiff brush then hosed it down.
