Doing the Europe tour next year and am a little concerned as to how stable
the bike will be below decks. I may well use the tunnel going out but may
use the Santander - Plymouth 24 hr boat on the return. Don't fancy finding
my nice new bike on it's side next day. Any experiences?

They strap them down with rachet straps. It's absolutely fine, I've
taken mine on the ferry plenty of times with no ill effects.

  3. only done it a few times. No issues at all. Remember how to put your
alarm into ferry mode so there are no embarrassing PA announcements
asking the owner of motorcycle xxxxxx to go and switch off his fucking
    alarm.

My previous ZZR11 was strapped down with a single piece of rope on the
Belfast-Troon Seacat. The sea was really choppy but the bike didn't
budge a bit. All the bikes were tied down this way, and no-one had any
    problems.

Absolute nightmare. The crew will place your bike on the greasiest
part of the deck, and pretend to tie it down with knicker elastic.

If that fails, two crew members are despatched just before arrival to
kick one bike in four onto its side.

If they're feeling particularly moody, they'll hose it down with sea
    water, too.

Top tip: only get on a boat with two other bikes on it.

Top Tip: sitck the bike in first gear when you park it
on the ferry to stop it rolling off the sidestand.

Put it on the centre stand if it has one. They do put straps on it but
if the crossing isn't rough you'll probably not need them anyway. Just
don't drop it when you get off at the other side, those floors are
    slippery! ;-)

When I put brought a boat over to the Isle of Man, they had a device that
you rolled the front wheel into which then tipped forward and held the wheel
firmily in place. Two ratchet straps were then fastenend onto the handlebars
and the bike was rock solid.

I was on the same ferry as one of those organised trips this summer. The
French crew just fucked off. I tied my own bike with a bit of rope.

On my return, there was a large group from London returning from a track
weekend at the Nurgurgring. This time the French crew did a very good job
    of tieing down 40+ bikes.

If you are worried, get your own ratchet straps. Not very costly in places
    like Hein Gericke and Halfords.

  11. *Good* advice, especially as Plymouth-Santander is a 24-hour crossing
and you want to arrive with a functioning battery.

They'd put a bit of tape over the label that said "Steam Catapult".

P&O successfully managed to knock my bike off its side stand whilst in gear.
The annoying thing was the boat was not even underway. In fact the deck
hands were still strapping the bike down...

I am still waiting on the quote from the dealer...
