I'm off to the NEC on Sunday and might take the bike. Any idea what the
score is with parking for two-wheelers?

Loads of places to park near the main bit, you might have to pay though.

  3. That reminds me. Had to pop over to Covent Garden today for a press
bash. Bike park must have been... ooohhh... all of 10 yards inside the
    Westminster zone.

Parked, tried texting the fee, bot asks for the three-diit code on my
    card, as it's been a year since I parked in W'minster I couldn't
remember what card I used, so phoned instead, gave the number, and
    wandered off.

Wandered back and I had a ticket.

Wtf? And then it dawned on me - I hadn't been asked for a registration
    number, or hadn't given one.

Rang up W'minster parking office and (unbelievably) a jovial bod says:
"Oh, yes, this happens all the time with bikes. How many have you got?"

    "Six."

Apparently their bot logs my call and payment, so if I send the ticket
back with a letter, and give my mobbly number, all should be well.

So why do I have this sense of unease?

There is free bike parking at the airport and the maglev to the NEC,
if you like that sort of thing.

I think there's bike parking at the station, which has the added
advantage of you being able to walk through the station straight to the
NEC. In fact we always park in the station, it's marginally cheaper than
the NEC, it's a new multi-storey so it's under cover and there aren't
the queues that you get at the main entrance/exit to the NEC. Shorter
walk as well as the entrance is in the station itself, none of this long
walk from car parks way away from the entrance or catching a bus.

    Shanghai.

I rode on it last week, though at a lowly 300kph.

I took the car in the end. Free parking for the conference anyway. Was
pleased to be in the car while driving through the pissing rain on the
way up this morning, not so pleased when stuck in traffic from Oxford to
    Wandsworth on the way home.

    Thoroughly excellent day though.

Oh, I was sure Shanghai was the first *commercial* one, but Wiki
    agrees with you.

I guess the way you phrased the question was a bit of a clue....
