bike security

    hi i just got a quick question:

    what levels of security are there for a motorbike? ive only got a 125
    but i park it outside the house

    could somebody tell me a few ways i could secure it going from cheapest
    to more expensive?

    is a chain lock through the wheel any good, which could also be used to
    lock to things when out and about?

    I've been considering that exact combination - but wouldn't a movement-
    sensitive alarmed disc lock be a problem with a cover (locking or not)?

    I'm imagining that fumbling around with the cover would trigger the alarm
    - and that I probably wouldn't be able to remove the cover (especially if
    it was a locking cover) and unlock the alarm before it goes off..

    Any "Real World (tm)" experiences with this? Is the alarming disc lock
    less sensitive than I imagine (ie. would I be able to remove the cover
    without triggering the alarm) - or is the 'grace-period' on the alarm long
    enough that I might be able to unlock it in time?

    My next-door-neighbour-but-one has an anchor for the chain he uses to
    secure his Speed Triple too. Unconventially, the anchor is fitted to a
    plastic rubbish bin.

    I'm not totally convinced by the efficacy of this as a
    theft-deterrant.

  6. I was pleasantly suprised by the ammount of underseat storage on Lisa's
    ER-5 - it swallows a 2M FOAD chain - long enough to around the seat and
    a lamp post or whatever. I always like to go around the seat if I can
    'cause it makes it much harder for fuckwitted thieves to not noice it's
    chained to something immovable before they screwdriver the ignition.

    there, plus a small can of lube, the toolkit, and my rather huge HG

    This is true - there's very little room left with the lock in there.
    However it's got a touring scotoiler on it so no need for chainlube and
    with Lisa's mechanical abilies the toolkit is of doubtfull use (she got
    breakdown cover instead). She's got cordura rather than leathers at the
    moment too as she's lost so much weight (4 stone since xmyth) that her
    leathers don't fit any more.

    drum brakes!!!! I think i will be getting a decent chain with
    padlock....

    I'll have you know, I had the 7R out for a spin last weekend.

    All of my bikes run apart from the BMW. The RGV is a twat to start
    though, but I think that's just old petrol/gummed carbs.

    I should add, again, top marks to Simon Weller for having sorted the
    7R out for me after it was nicked and thrown in a ditch - thank the
    Lord for communists!
