Bike shop commission?

Does anybody know roughly how much I should expect to pay a motorcycle shop
in commission for selling my bike for me?

Don't stress. I'm not selling the new bike.

If anybody is interested the bike I'm selling is a '92 CBR1000f red white
and blue, last model before combined breaking system. Good condition. Just
under 70,000 k's I think from memory. Cant be stuffed going outside to look.
But if anybody is interested I'll go look. Haven't decided how much I want
for it yet but reasonable offers will be considered. Market value is around
$6,500 so a slab of beer may sweeten your offer but on it's own wont stand a
    chance.

    Cheers

5% or $500. If they ask for any more
No. Redbook says the bike's worth around $6,500. In reality, early
Blackbirds sell for that kind of money. Advertiseyour bike for more than
$4,800, say, and you'll be waiting quite a while for the phone to ring.

    ....before the combined "breaking" system?

So in later models, parts always broke simultaneously?

  5. KTM Prorider in Syd wanted $300 if they sold it. MAW wanted $25 a week to have it in the shop.

Still think the Internet is one of the best ways:

Do you know of anyone selling early Blackbirds for that price? I've just
done a search on some bike sales sites, and the cheapest that I've found
    are around the $8,500 mark.

A Blackbird of that vintage might suit me, if they're that cheap.

Well, you've got 6 hours and 45 minutes to grab this one,

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32625&item=4544608366&rd=1

Apart from that, brand-new, they can be had for ~16k. A nine-year-old
version of the same bike can't possibly be worth a full half of that.

You'd think so. Maybe the sellers of all the ones that I looked up are
overly optimistic in their expectations. Also, saw a lot of CBR1000Fs
going for around the 6-7k mark. They ranged from 94 to 98 models. One
    fellow was asking nearly 10k for a 98 CBR1000.

This was on www.bikesales.com.au. Did a search on the Blackbird, all
states, no selected price range all years. Ditto for the CBR1000F.

Best deal that I saw was Guy "Guido" Allen's Blackbird. When I was in
the market, I saw his ad. He had a 99 model in 2001 going for around
$8,500-9,000. I rang him but he'd sold it a day or so earlier. Wasted
sale, as the fellow wrote it off 2 weeks later.....

He lamented the fact the most people who rang up expected it to have
less than 5,000km on it. Otherwise it was overpriced. It had 18,000km on
    it.

I had the same thing with an old ZZR1100 that I was selling. It was 10
years old and had 100,000 km on the clock. I had it on the market for a
good $2,000 below what the Redbook and other examples of this model were
selling for. One bloke who came to see it thought it was a 95 model. I
said that if it was, I would be asking at least $4k more for it. Ended
up flogging it for around $4k.

That's one way of putting it. Another is to say that they're greedy,
uninformed, and are pulling their prices out of their arses in a manner
    which reflects this.
I see your 10-grand 98 ChubbyBlade and raise you a GSX-R600 of the same
vintage that appeared in the Canberra Times last year; $12,000 to you,
Sir... they sold for less than that when they were new.
    And, respectfully, that's about what a 10-year-old big-bore
    sports-tourer is worth.

Meanwhile, that Blackbird up in Qld is back on Ebay with a $6,000
starting price, this time. Someone's already put a bid in.

I need to get a battleship of some description in time for the GP so I
can bring the cream in my coffee down with me so I don't miss her the
way I usually do when I come down alone and, at that price, if my job
situation was more solid, I'd be sorely tempted by that bike... so,
hurry up and grab it before I get a job, Martin. :)

And a third way of putting it would be that they're enthusiastic
players in a vigorous market ... hell, why not advertise high and
see if some sucker goes for it? If you're not in a hurry, it's
    not a bad tactic.

If Sofi had been in less of a hurry I reckon I could have got 500 -
1000 more for the VTR250, for example ... just a matter of waiting for
the right fish to come along.

Rubbish. The market price is the market price - a seller can ask
whatever they want, and a buyer can offer whatever they like, until they
reach a price they're both happy with then so what ? It's not "greedy"
to attempt to maximise the price received any more than it's being a
tight arse to try and buy for the minimum you can.

<shrug> I just got 5 grand for a 9 year old big bore sports tourer with
    60,000 Km, from a dealer.
