They're still pretty much all poor substitutes for English Ale or
Continental lager, though. So yes, all American beer is shit.

I'm with brother Ginge. Some of the stuff is quite quaffable[1].

[1] Seen on a wine list the other week.

I still reckon that it's a bit of an over-reaction. There are some
very nice American beers available now. Not many granted, but some
    nonetheless.

ObRealAle: went to the Edgar Wallace on Essex Street last night. Great
selection of ales and generally a very nice boozer. Recommended if
    anyone is in the area.

But there are, IME, invariably better examples of whatever they're
doing to be found on this side of the pond. They've invented a
plethora of 'Ale-type' beers, none of which are actually ale at all,
and they all suffer for it. Many of them have had bizarre
flavorings[sic] added, which practice I absolutely abhor, and they're
    all served cold and gassy.

Admittedly some of their lagers can be acceptable, but compared with
the best on offer from the Belgians, the Germans and the Czechs they
    pale into insignificance.

Just to move the argument sideways a bit, we never drink American beer
simply for drink-miles reasons - because it needs to be shipped
several thousand miles over the Atlantic and we can get perfectly good
    beer from Europe.

Neither, for that matter, and for the same reason, do we drink wine
from outside Europe - or water from outside the UK.

Yup I don't buy any SA, Aussie or South American wines with the single
exception of the odd decent Chilean.
Bottled yank beer as we get it here is *awful* but then again none of them
    are as bad as Heineken.

I differ on the watter though. Pellegrino is the Water of Life.
I was a bit gutted in the 90's when the company was bought by Nestlé all the
    same.

I didn't know that. Even so, the Nestlé product I miss most is still

Why do you miss it? Surely they still make them, don't they?
You know, I don't think I've ever tried them. Nor the Shreddies, come
    to that.

  20. Same with me. It was a nice enough bike but really didn't satisfy the
    urge.
The front end is even more vague at 100+ with a decent amount of weight
    on the back..
