My problem is that I don't know what I want - I'm going to change
bikes every 9-12 months until I find something that I really really
like. That said, in 6 months I've put on 50% of the miles you did on
    it in 5 years...
your wife didn't strike me as *that* fat.

only in terms of vehicle ownership for me, though - I'm pretty clear
about where the rest of my life's going for the next year or so.

OK my travel is booked, we will be coming into Brum Apt around 09:45 and
heading over on the skylink. Train to Leeds sometime after 18:00.

We will be going out for dinner on Friday night in Leeds.
Doing the Snow Dome on Saturday and dinner out somewhere again, curry almost
    certainly.
Of course you are welcome to come up from Brum, plenty crash space, proper
beds, try the skiing/boarding on snow.
Realise it would be a long drive down again on Sunday though.

I think she only went on the back once or twice. And I didn't exceed
    50mph.

    And she isn't.

What? any part of it!! or just what comes after a ZX-10R

I would say I have the next 2 or 3 years pretty much under wraps in terms of
    intent, business and personal.
Of course the reality will bite me in the bum!!!

    I'm genuinely not.

With each bike I buy, for a greater or lesser amount of time, I
really, really like it. And then I just sort of go off it a bit. And I
really like the RX-8, but after only 9 months and 1500 miles, I'm
contemplating changing it for something basically a bit stupider.

Can I say I told you so (even though I'm not sure I did, but I
certainly thought it)? The Tiger & the RX-8 have a lot in common.
They're both excellent all-rounders, & can be huge fun in the right
circumstances, but those circumstances are few & far between,
especially in your corner of the country.

What you need is something that gets the senses going, & is huge fun,
at low speeds. A big (engine size, not bike size) single or twin SM,
geared down to wheelie easily off the throttle in second would do
    nicely for the bike.

The four wheel quandry is a bit harder to solve, especially for someone
who likes modern cars with their creature comforts. But an old V8 yank
muscle car really does make a fantastic summer toy when you spend most
of your time on over-crowded roads.

    Didn't I say that!!
I wan't WUN's bike with 80kg less and better handling.

Actually the 4S with an R100RS fairing would be *almost* perfect (1)
Another 10mpg, a gallon more in the tank and 25 more rear wheel bhp would
    make it completely so.

    (1) and I did buy a spare fairing.

The RX-8 cabin is more than nice enough, I don't know what he's talking
    about.

the cabin's absolutely fine, for sure. And it's mostly quick enough,
and it handles sublimely. It's just not as raw as I'd like.

Yes, you were too tight to buy the 911.

"tight"'s not quite the right word. If I'd really, really wanted a
911, I could have bought one, but at the expense of not getting the
modifications done to the interior and exterior of my house finished
    this year.

Next year, the small amount of redecoration that I'll be doing will
only be a few thousand (as opposed to the ~15K we've spent on the
house and furnishings so far this year), and so (bonus depending) I
should have enough to change the car to whatever I fancy.

I doubt it'd be a 911 though. TBH, if I were going to buy a Porsche,
    I'd probably go for a post face-lift Boxster S.

Then again, the employers are bleating on about sub-prime this, sub-
prime that, and so bonuses may be pitiful this year, and I may end up
just keeping the RX for another year, and buying a new-ish Speed
    Triple instead.

Convertible cars are for those too pathetic not to ride motorbikes. HTH
A Boxster wouldn't give you much over an RX-8. The 911 OTOH......

you didn't - you did warn me off buying a Elise, as it goes, though.
Oh, the RX-8 is definitely huge fun, going round tight corners, on
twisty roads, but it does need to be driven hard to get the most out
of it - I think I'd prefer something to allow me to be a bit lazier
    but still make "progress", IYSWIM.
I've had an SM before - they are great fun, but they are really
limited in what you can do with them - you really, really, couldn't
tour happily on one - not just due to comfort, the tank range is
    pitiful.
Although I said to Bear the other day that I wouldn't buy one, I'm
increasingly drawn to a TVR Tuscan 4.0.
