come on, no fair, despite its name, the KTM950SM is not really a
Supermoto - it's far, far too comfortable.

that's exactly it - I want something that's fun - reliability is not
even close to being the primary focus (though I have to admit some of
the tales of running costs for TVRs are a little scary).

that's the sort of scare-story I was thinking of, indeed.

Oh well, we'll see what happens come bonus-time.

We had a FibreFab (I think) Mercedes SSK replica for a couple of years.

2 litre ford Cortina powered, chassis of two long box sections along the
car with two running across to keep them apart, everything else fibreglass.
Went like stink due to the total weight being comprised of an angine and
gearbox, 4 wire wheels and whoever was in it.

Running costs virtually nothing, everything that broke (1 reversing
light switch) was available from a scrappie.

As others have said, they're really not worth bothering with unless
    a) you're a complete beginner with money to burn (cheap they ain't) or
    b) you need to test/adjust some new kit.

The newer ones are better than Tamworth, as that simply freezes from
underneath, a bit like an ice rink, and scrapes it off into small
shards of ice, which have almost zero 'cling' and therefore get
scraped off leaving bare ice very easily. The later ones do produce
blown snow, but as anyone who's skied on machine-made snow knows, it's
still only a little like the real thing.

And you don't get much for your money. We went to the one in MK a few
times when it was first open, to test a new knee amongst other things,
and typically would only get about a dozen runs down in an hour. Each
run could last as little as twenty seconds or so - the rest of the
time was spent queueing for and using the drag lifts.

Yes, but then, in order to use them, you'd have to bung them into a
    Vette, and drive it :)[/QUOTE]

    See, it's a win-win situation.
There was a TV prog t'other night about a company that make Eleanors,
with Shelby's blessing (& signature on the dash). I nearly slid off the
    sofa due to the drool-puddle.

that's my take on it too.

You see loads of those new-ish Mustang things around Essex and Herts -
weekend before last there were 3 parked in the carpark of Waitrose in
    WGC alone.

I like your Cobra suggestion, sort of, but what I really want is
something raw, new-ish, but with the creature comforts. If they
weren't so damn unreliable, the Tuscan fits the bill perfectly.

An apartment. New car purchase put off until the spring, but probably,
    don't laugh, the Nissan Murano.

TVR now offer a 3 year 60,000 mile warranty on new ones!

Not that I'm going to pay the thick end of 60K for a car. And in fact,
even 2nd hand they're a bit more than I want to spend - TBH, if I were
heading up into that region, I'd have a 911 and be done with it.

We're both spanners then, although I suppose as you've got just the one
septic car, I'm twice as spannery as you.

Not entirely. Is the definition 'septic cars that were never officially
    imported' then?

Surely the jeep's more of a septic tank.
