Looks like I'm getting a nice Black Blackbird, just need it collecting.
Best quote so far is £90 from Willenhall (West Midlands) to Flookburgh
    (South Lake District).
Anyone do it for less? Can't be ridden, needs new tyre. Would prefer someone
    who is fully insured!

    <pessimist mode>
Organising a tyre fitter, then riding such a fast bike with a new tyre on
roads I am not use to, then a motorway and probably it would rain. I'd die.
    </p>

Train fare, paying a premium for the tyre, plus the time it takes to train
there, ride back. £90 is worth it. First quote was over £200, which is
probably a price I would have considered collecting it in the pickup.

WTF is a bike for if not to ride it? Particularly as a motorway is the
    safest type of road going.

    ?

I really can't think of a safer place to get used to a new bike. Plenty
of lanes, no corners, no oncoming traffic.

I hate Motorways! Its full of BMW's and Audi's.

By the time I had got down there on a train full of screaming kids, I'd not
be in the mood to ride. It was bad enough getting the wife's MGF from
    Stockport.

Also I haven't ridden for 12 months, so would like to get back into it
    gradually.

You don't sound like you're cut out for a Blackbird, tbh.

    Have you considered a scooter?

I had no problem with the GSX1100F, which I bought 3 months after passing my
test. I had a crash in 2004 (on a GS550M) and damaged my elbow, which still
causes pain when I ride. Which is why I sold the GSX, but then I went to
the docs and had an x-ray. Nothing out of place or wrong, most likely a
    weak muscle (oh..suit you sir).

Hence wanting to get back into biking.

You'd be fine. Once you get back up past Preston on the M6 it's just
a big fast road, although I know Plod can be a bit oppressive around
Lancaster. Riding on roads you're not used to is part of the fun, and
you shouldn't be bothered about rain if you're a true Cumbrian. The
bike will only go as fast as you want it to, too.

    Do it. YKIMS

I've had a brain wave, why doesn't the OP just ride with an ilegal
    tyre FFS ?
just don't fall off or get pulled... and make the apropriate
    allowances if it's wet.
from what he says about being a bit nervous, I'd say a worn out tyre
is less likely to kill him than falling off at high speed due to lack
    of care or practice

Pip, I say PIP, old chap. Seems to be something wrong here - someone
claiming an MIB# is failing to demostrate the essential blackness
    within.

Can I just point out that the new toy is black?

    Thanks.

I realise that I am lacking in the general blackness-of-outlook
department. And many of my clothes are of other, inferior hues.
Nonetheless, since the entrance barrier appears to have been lowered, I
request; nay DEMAND! my MIB #.

Especially since I'm not the sort of **** who fails to snip sigs.

I await your response, etc, etc.
