Well, the old FJ has gone to a new home. It trundled up the road (with
intact pistons I might add :p) yesterday evening with its new owner. I
trust you got home Ok Paul?

I shall now ponder over my biking activities, and perhaps think a bit
about the next one I want. I do miss riding though.

As it happens, it won't be needed for commuting anyway. After telling me
that there wouldn't be a problem with going back to work part time, my
new job was perfect for such a situation, they now tell me that staffing
levels can't maintain a part time position. Cunts.

Well, ****'em, I don't really need them now anyway, so I'm going to take
time to think about my next move, I have choices that I can make now,
and I don't have to rush into anything, so I won't.

What timing - insensitive bastards. Glad to hear you have time to
consider options. My old place was particularly good about accommodating
people's home situation where possible and I reckon it paid off in
    keeping the right staff.

There's always a shortage of decent mechanics. Good luck mate.
    Have you thought of freelancing?
    More money in it?

Hmm, I did once, but now my main intention is to get away from the motor
    trade altogether.

Er yes, that is usually the case. However, when the accounts books talk
louder, they don't seem to care about that.

Still I'm really not bothered at the moment, and if anything it actually
gives me less to worry about for the near future.

Oh I dunno, I think this might be a lucky move, it opens up my plans for
    the future so much more.

  11. Go back to fixing Alfas? Always plenty of work there. You'll never
    starve.

  12. If you feel so inclined, have you checked the legal position? I've a feeling
you're entitled to ask for "family friendly" these days. But sod them, in
    any event.

AFAIK they can decline if family friendly/flexible working is not
possible due to business reasons. They do however have to consider it.

Well, you just had me searching the employment sites. Compassionate
leave is undefined in law, so a 'reasonable' time is allowed.

I can only insist on flexible hours on return if our child is under 6
years old (ours is nearly 12). They do have to offer me my old position
though, or 'where possible', alterative arrangements. However, the only
law I can find relating to fatherhood is under the 'Paternity' leave
sections, and really only relates to taking time off after the birth of
    a child.

    As you say, sod 'em.
