Bikeless

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by LucretiaBorgia, Jan 23, 2011.

  1. Sold the XJR for reasonable moneys to an XJR enthusiast from Essex
yesterday. Snivelled a bit and swept up the ring of leaves that had
collected around the wheels. Put away my black leathers and gay pink
    Arai Quantum-f.
I'm not planning on getting another bike. To be honest I'm tired of the
in-fighting, the snobbery and the cliques associated with labelling
myself a biker =-) and you guys make me laugh while perpetuating all the
    well-worn myths. Go UKRM!
So, I'm a non-bike-owner but not an ex-biker. I still side with the
upside-downie-heads against the race-rep born-again power rangers but
    I'm not a patch club brown-noser either.
I might get a jolly jaunt on the other half's BSA M21 and Watsonian
    Maxstoke sidecarp one day...
Hope I'm still welcome in the hallowed halls of UKRM?
    Ride safe chaps and chapettes.

Is the relevance of the enthusiast that you found someone willing to pay
the asking or that you justified letting it go for quite a bit less as it
was going to a good home?

  4. Bit of both. The guy knew what he was getting, knew how the bikes age
and behave and what to look for. He was happy, I was happy. All good.
I was just concerned that it didn't get flogged off to a breaker or some
    evil dealer scum.

    <shameless plug>
I have 3 nice bikes to sell you, all suitable for the shortlegged.
The GS500 and the CBR600F are both immaculate with bugger all miles
and the 400/4 is a rather pretty rideable classic.

I can't really imagine Lucretia riding any of the bikes you're trying
    to sell her.
    It doesn't.

are you going to be selling them at the mark rate or attempting to sell
them at your notional value like last year?
past evidence suggests not but economic rationality will have its way in
    the end

They will go at sensible prices for their nice condition and low mileage.
If someone tries to tell me that the eBay selling price for a knackered
heap of crap is the "market rate" they can **** right off.
Someone will always pay a good price for a good one.

If TOG is ever down this way I will ask him to take a look and give
    his opinion.

What about those of us who are neither? People for whom bikes are
an integral part of their psyche, who have always ridden bikes and
who are not upside-downie-heads or subscribers to any other particular
    biking pigeon-hole?

You lying ****. You gave me all sorts of stick about my Tenere when I
took it on a TOG trip and it was flat out at about 95mph.

I can't remember everything you said about it but there was certainly
a comment about it being a chicken chaser and a gutless pile of crap.

Indeed, +/- the usual ukrm banter.
A lot depends on your biking history, when I were a lad the Norton
Dominator was the bees knees in sports bikes. Fast forward 50 years
and even my GS500 is faster than a Dominator. Back then a litrebike
was a rarity, either pulling a chair like the Squarial or a toy
for the very wealthy like the Brough or Vincent.

Of course I wouldn't but why should that make a difference. You
displayed prejudice against a certain type of bike and that's the end
    of it all.

    I'm sort of the opposite.
Got a few bikes but am unable to ride any of 'em.

    Now't wrong with us upside-downie heads ;-)
I ran my old M21 outfit for years - it finally expired in 1991 when it broke
    a con-rod.

I can see that. I've got rid of all the knives in my kitchen because
I'm tired of the in-fighting among people who rave about tactical camo-
colored blades vs the sword and epee people. And I'm going to bin my
computer because of those weirdos who bicker about Apple vs Windows.
And if I see one more advert for a monster truck show, I'll get rid of
my truck, too. Just once, I'd like to label myself something without
picking up all the silly stuff that goes along with it.

So stop labelling yourself a biker. Doesn't mean you have to stop riding
    bikes.

  17. You still don't seem to grasp the sort of people who want to buy 400
Fours, and precisely what they want.

    Is the right answer.

I'm a car driver, one who also owns 3 motorcycles and 2 pushbikes.

    All GS500s are shit.

Your 400/4 is a pretty ropey example.

I assume the CBR is similarly afflicted, given your usual standards.
