Old ones can be tatty, i suspect that you have never ridden or even seen
a pristine example. Some people love them as good little commuters.
WRONG - it is actually rather tidy. The black paint is being replaced by
the original Yellow. The new Motad exhaust does not look as nice as the
original unobtainium but that is par for the course nowadays.
Wrong again - the local dealer says it is totally original and the
nicest example he has seen for years.

You have never seen any of my bikes so you gave no idea.

Is it a different 400F from the one you advertised on ebay last year
    then?

I'm confident that you'll be back on a bike when your financial
situation improves and the sun starts shining :).

I'm also pretty sure your diatribe is just a way of releasing some of
the sadness at letting the bike go.

Very few people do, as the Honda CB500 made it look like something you'd
    find in a Christmas cracker.
We've already established that you have no idea what a 'good' 400/4 is
like - and seem to think a snotter with non-original parts is 'just what
    everyone is looking for'.

Compare and contrast yours and TOG's.
I've seen photos of the 400/4, and if that's a 'nice' example, I'd hate
to think what you'd consider a scruffy one to look like - hence I assume
your CBR is also a bit shit to everyone but you.

  10. The CB is just a touch taller, which makes it a much less desirable bike
    for some folks.

I'm confused. Wind up? You mean you didn't really sell your bike?
So you've had a hard financial choice: keep the bike or keep the
social networking. Personally, I'd happily live alone and keep the
bikes, but then I'm a sad git.

I assume that you're a bit cut-up about having to lose the bike, which
might explain the random sniping at strangers like me.
Gosh. And there was me believing you'd really bought a C90.

Any bike's better than no bike which is why I've nearly always managed
to keep a bike of some description on the road. The social aspect is
just a by product of doing something you enjoy and can easily be done
without though if the people you're doing the rallies with are proper
friends they'll take you as a pillion until the situation changes.

  15. Hitching through Belgium, I got a lift from a Japanese chap who turned
out to be the European Suzuki parts manager. He told me that, as a
primary school kid, he was evacuated from Hiroshima to a village just
over the hill. He and his classmates were lining up in the playground to
go into the school when the sky lit up.

  16. With the best will in the world, I've already advised you on the 400
    Four.

As for the G500, I actually quite like the things as cheapo hacks.

  17. Well, that's better, because in black and with a Motad, it was a
non-starter. Even in yellow (assuming it's the right colour *and with
the right fucking graphics applied the right way round on the side
panels*[1], it'll be worth little more than a grand, mind.

[1] People always get this wrong.

Indeed, thanks. The previous owner spent a load of money restoring it, unfortunately
in the wrong colour, which is easy enough to fix, and with some other aftermarket
parts such as the exhaust and front mudguard. With the correct paint and decals it
will look nice and "good enough" for many non-purist buyers. Replacing brand new
aftermarket parts with expensive unobtanium would be silly at this point as
it is not a keeper - see below.
They are the Marmite of the bike world, love them or hate them. Apart from the
expected comments from the usual suspects it is actually a rather nice
low mileage example and should fetch reasonable money from someone who
takes the trouble to look at it come springtime.

As a pensioner I cannot really justify the ongoing cost of two lockups so
a major clearance is on the way. Wth my age and fitnes levels I find
that the Majesty does everything I need well enough, I rarely get the
chance to ride long distanes due to the demands of caring for
    her indoors.

That leaves the ex-daughter CBR600F which is currently in a local dealer's
showroom and is bloody immaculate. It should sell and I have no interest
in riding it. If someone wants one they can let me know, it came from
the main dealer in Cheltenham and the daughter lost interest in doing her
direct access so she never rode it.
