Biker-friendly places to stay in France

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Aug 5, 2008.

  1. I'm actually spending this week in one such, although I'm on four wheels
    rather than two [1].

    http://www.relaismotards.com/RM/relaismotard.htm

Les Relais Motards is a new one on me: bars, restaurants, hotels,
grouped under a sort of organisational banner and with a (pretty crappy,
    it must be said) magazine.

Nonetheless, an excellent idea, and probably of use to anyone trundling
    round chez les Frogs.

Our place is a B&B in a little village called Pareid, near Metz. Lovely
room in a converted old building, nice quiet garden, e44 night for two.
Oh, and it's got free wifi so this posting is coming from a bench in the
shade of the garden's fruit trees.

I'll be using this site, I can see. Doubt if any of the places is big
enough for a French Run, but I shall certainly investigate.

[1] Hot air ballooning again. Lovely flight this morning: doing another
one as soon as the wind drops this evening.

The Germans & Austrians have similar set-ups. The Hotel Weisseespitze I
stayed in Kaunertal was part of http://www.motorrad-hotel.com (crap
    website), download the brochure from
    http://www.motorrad-hotel.com/pdf/kk.pdf

    A site in German http://www.tourenfahrer-hotels.de/
It's easy to find places though as they are marked on a google map. Click
the hotel link and most websites will have English translation

I read that as "tourenfuhrer" and wondered it was a "holiday in
    Poland" site.

A bunch of Harley riders I met once introduced one of their number,
perfectly seriously, as their "road captain".

where they germans? German custom riders can be *very* strange.

On tour in France one time, we happened to stop at a petrol station at
the same time as a bunch (I forget how many, at least 6 or 7) German v-
max riders. They were all dressed in near identical outfits, including
those leather jeans that have the criss-cross string up the outside of
    the legs.

And when they took their (open face) lids off, most of them produced
those Village People-style peaked black leather caps to wear.

And yes, one of them introduced himself as "road leader" or "road
captain" - again I forget which.

We saw a bunch of Harley owners milling around at Maidstone services
and one of the sad cunts had a dayglo vest on with road captain
printed on the back. I wasn't sure whether it was sadder that he felt
the need to wear the fucking thing or that people were prepared to be
    seen with him.

Let's face it, they've already abandoned any concept of pride when
    they bought Hardleys.

Actually they were a mixture of US, british and assorted asians, on their
way by land from Saudi Arabia to Ireland for some Harley party. I met them
at the Harley dealer in Annecy, where my GF was picking up her Sportster. I
thought it sounded like a nice trip, but with the matching leather
waistcoats and back-to-front baseball caps they really did look a bunch of
pillocks. They seemed to have stopped in to get their bikes washed....

  15. I imagine he was one of those irritating cunts who take it upon
themselves to hold up the traffic so that all the Harley riders can
wobble their way out of their 'rest stop' in one convoy.

I've only ever seen Harley ride-outs do this, though I suspect the Wing
Nuts are fond of the same idiocy.

I've seen it done by the Honda Owners Club, Bristol Branch. That was many
years ago and I believe the national exec has decreed that the practice
should cease in favour of the drop off system.
