Hi all, a quick question for the font on behalf of a mate who's hoping
to travel from Chile up to Montevideo by bike. At the moment the plan
is to buy something fairly cheap in Punta Arenas, explore Tierra del
Fuego a bit, then up through Argentina and into Uruguay. Anyone got
any experience of this sort of thing? Specifically he was asking about
what sort of paperwork he might need if stopped and to get through
borders and stuff, though I guess there are a whole host of other
potential problems. I know some bloke in Bike magazine was doing
something similar but can't find anything on their site.

Any pearls of wisdom gratefully received.

    Cheers

He'll be lucky to find anything in Punta Arenas except maybe a
stepthrus - not only is it (literally) the bottom of the planet, but
it's hardly biking territory. He'll need to move all the way up to
Santiago before he will find any half-decent bikes. There are very,
very few motorcycles in Chile, and those that exist tend to be small
two-strokes that are obsolete elsewhere - Suzuki air-cooled TS125s and
    the like.

Hmm, he said he wanted something basic - I'm not sure he meant quite
    that basic.......
