As much as I love the Huyabusa I reckon it's gonna have to go, for some odd reason it gives me crippling back pain, my last ZZR didn't give me back pain & the BMW doesn't. It has gotta be the riding position. No matter how long the ride it just hurts like a twat. So, I try a late model ZZR or trade both in for a 1200GS hhhhmmm - didn't expect that I must say & it didn't hurt for the first few rides. Took the BMW for a blast on Monday & no pain, Busa today real bad pain. -- 'nothing up top but a bucket & a mop & an illustrated book about birds' Nige Subaru WRX (54) Land Rover 101 GS/Ambi (Morph) BMW 650 GS Dakar 2000 Suzuki GSX1300R Y Hayabusa
Pretty much everything I hear about new BMWs like the 1200GS suggests to me that you don't want to buy one.
In what way, a 1150 or 1100 might be better & cheaper? -- 'nothing up top but a bucket & a mop & an illustrated book about birds' Nige Subaru WRX (54) Land Rover 101 GS/Ambi (Morph) BMW 650 GS Dakar 2000 Suzuki GSX1300R Y Hayabusa
An 1150 sans ABS most likely is. I've heard tales about self-destructing gearboxes, electronics problems (they're CAN bus, first for a bike and it looks to me like they've got "a few" teething problem) and more on the 1200s. My experience with the 1150 GSA wasn't too bad but the dealer fell into the category that rhymes with "banker" when I tried to get the usual cosmetics issues resolved. In fact, the experience was so bad (even though they did replace a few parts) that I rather let the warranty expire instead of attempting to go near his premises again. And I'm usually fairly laid back... The only real problem that I had were the ABS problems in Switzerland - thanks to some genius engineering, the rear brake servo can be easily sabotaged by a little stone, resulting in loss of the servo. Not fun if you're trying to navigate down the road from my mum's place on an 1150 loaded to the gunwhales, with a pillion and hardly any rear brake. As the Swiss mechanic cheerfully informed me on the phone, they got this problem so often that he could diagnose it on the phone with 100% accuracy, confirm by reading the fault code later. All in all, the experience with an almost new BMW has left me cold, hence I bought an older one again.
I wont be getting any bike with ABS, but i do take on board your point. Ta -- 'nothing up top but a bucket & a mop & an illustrated book about birds' Nige Subaru WRX (54) Land Rover 101 GS/Ambi (Morph) BMW 650 GS Dakar 2000 Suzuki GSX1300R Y Hayabusa
What's the real reason for selling it, too fast for you perhaps? just not man enough? Obviously if it was just the riding position one would simply spend a few hundred squids changing the bars/pegs/screen as appropriate, wouldn't one?
heheh - not at all, it's real! Screen is a double bubble & not a right lot can be done with the seat. I think it's the stretch front to back, it is quite long. Hurts like a twat mind.
