Just in process of trying to build a cafe racer from an '84 Honda CBX250
    single..

This model has a black engine but i wanted to get it to bare..aluminium with
chrome covers etc.. Obviously the engine will be out of the bike and partly
dismantled but regardless i am not concerned about damaging other paint work
as this is a "from the ground up" project..

Is there an easy way of doing this without damaging the surface.. like a
mild acid solution (disolve the engine ..hahaha) or paint stripper?

Once stripped i assume the aluminium will require a protective "varnish"
    coat of some description?

Elbow grease is not in my vocabulory

    Would appreciate any advice

    Regards

  2. Pretty much any auto parts store has paint stripper that is safe for
aluminum. That will take the black paint off.

Polishing the aluminum is a bit of work.

Paint it silver. Getting all the black off w/o a lot of work (per your
elbow grease comment) isn't gonna happen.

if you want to save elbow grease take it to a small engine shop and find
ot if they have a blast cabinet and see if they can take it off or look
in the phone book for a plae that does bead blasting of aluminium parts
(motorcycles, automotive restorations even race shops), but if your
planning on doing more coating removali the future, than you my want to
consider to invest in a blast cabinet and a decent compressor.
They come in all sizes and prices.
I have tried different methods of coating removal and found the blast
cabinet the fastest and most complete way of removing paint from parts .
