I REALLY want a Blackbird but I am trying not to rush into things and make
an informed decision. I have one in mind which is currently at the dealer
for £4999. It is a 2000 model on a W plate, is fuel injected, 21000 miles,
full kappa luggage set, heated grips, nearly new tyres, fender extender,
    rear hugger and in VGC.

I know I can find cheaper but I also like the dealer and have used them
    before. I'm moving from a 1200 Bandit which I've had for 3 years.(2001
facelift S model with the fairing- any offers!)

Wouldn't mind a few views on the bike and the price. What do I need to look
out for. Insurance quote from e-bike was £125 TPFT or £250 comp.

You could buy mine and save yourself over a third off the price...:) Email
    me if you like.

That's a fucking good quote, and it's a fucking good bike. If we hadn't just
bought a house I would be hanging on to mine.

Mark scribbled on the back of a napkin:

Are you trying to tell us that he's asking *five grand* for a five year
    old Blackbird?

Most of the bits that are on the bike may make it easier to sell
(although the bike trade is currently shit anyway) but nothing that
    would increase its value.
Haggling skills would be a good start.

I thought that. That's why I offered to sell him my slightly older one with
less mileage for less money ;-)

2001 model SK1 (blue) with 47,000 miles (yes 47) recent new pads all round

shock and progressive springs. New head bearings and chain/sprockets within
last 5000 miles. Taxed to June '06, MOT until October '06. Excellent
condition for mileage, regularly washed and cleaned, copious quantities of

Its a bloody nice bike, reliable, smooth as silk, does what it says. I
find the FI a bit binary around town, but fine over about 40mph.
Touring is OK[1], if its not too wet. Linked brakes, well, at first I
had no problem, but a wet track day has made me believe they are the
    work of Stan.

Good bike, but 5ks, jeez, how much does a new one cost? That
    insewerance quote was good.

[1] Mines been down to Bucharest.

The people in Bridgend are a motorcycle dealership, who are offering me less
that I would like due to their own mark up having to go on, so if I can sell
it privately I would rather do that.

The reason for me asking about transport to Bridgend is that the only way I
could get an acceptable price out of them was if I brought it to them,
rather than them collecting it. Given that it's probably going to cost me
around £100 to get it there once you add up van hire, diesel and the bridge
toll, it starts getting into "not enough money" territory again :-(

It does sound a bit much doesn't it. I just bought a 2002 ZZR1200 for
only a little more than half of that (high mileage though).

I test rode a Blackbird before buying the ZZR, very similar in many
ways. If a Blackbird is the sort of thing you want then I'd recommend
    tryin a ZZR1200 as well.

It's a;; good, 'cept for the price. I'd say hack /at least/ two grand
off of that (and probably some more).

It's got stratospheric (for the bike trade) miles on it for starters and
will likely need new discs soon if the existing ones are 12k miles old.

Even if it is in "excellent condition", it ain't worth five grand. Tell
you what, give me the five grand, I'll find you a decent Blackbird and
with the change I'll buy myself another ZX12R.
    :)
