"Researchers say it is the closest thing yet to the ideal black
material, which absorbs light perfectly at all angles and over all
    wavelengths."

    Wow, useful. Invisibility cloak.

"The discovery is expected to have applications in the fields of
    electronics and solar energy."

**** that you hippy, phone the MOD.

Yeah but for people who don't like the look of you, they can simply
    paint you with it.

    ps: have this one [ ' ]

    I'm up for that.
I can think of uses for that, too - and I'm not thinking Harry Potter
    here.

  6. I think our upstairs landing has that stuff as wall paper, judging by the
amount of times per year I stump my toe or tread on something that the cat's
    bought in / let slip.

I saw an example of something similar in an art gallery a while ago. I
suppose it's the second blackest material ever now. The thing was that
they'd written a paragraph of text and some part of it was printed using the
super black stuff. It turned out to be the dot of an i IIRC, and it was
barely blacker than the rest of it.

A few years back I did a job at the plant where they manufacture the
rubber sheet used for stealth coating on warships. I tried to persuade
them to give me a few sheets because apparently it'd **** police speed
cameras (the old hand held variety) big style but they weren't having
    any of it.

  15. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, steve robinson
Pip and I are probably thinking the same thing. And it has the words
"Girls'" "Changing" and "Room" in it.

Which is exactly the opposite to what you want as a defence to lasers as it
means all the energy is absorbed.

For that you want 100% reflection down the exact same path light came in on

unless it employs active optics which depends on reflection from a glint

.... unless the laser's being used to measure your speed, of course.

it'll still exhibit black-body radiation properties - pump enough
energy into with your laser, and it'll either melt, burn or glow.
