Blaming others

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Grimley_Feindish, Sep 21, 2006.

  1. What is it with people having to always look to blame others to cover their
own stupidity. I was reading in MCN today about that tit that didn't check
his oil for 11 weeks as the manual only said check it as the service
intervals (even though the handbook says check daily) and then tried blaming
Triumph because he fucked the engine up.

On my local evening news this evening there was a story about some bint who
travelled on holiday with an expired passport which UK security missed (a
bad mistake on their part I'll admit) but as she was refused entry at her
destination she's now trying to blame UK immigration for it.

  2. I'm not sure why the country you are leaving would care about the status
    of your passport.

They could always bar her re-entry into the country - that would be an
    amusing twist.

  4. They use it to verify ID when checking in and before boarding. Presumeably
they should notice at that point whether it was valid or not. But whatever,
it was *her* responsibility to ensure her essential travel docs are in order
befre setting off, no one elses.

  5. The country might but the airline should. You are typically required to
have at least 6 months validity on your passport and if you are allowed
to travel with less and are refused entry the airline have to take you
back AIUI. I have very nearly got caught by this when travelling to
Oslo - I think I was about one day under the 6 month limit but
thankfully only going to be away for a few days.

Nonetheless it is the traveller's responsibility to have fully compliant
paperwork and certainly not that of the Immigration service or the
    airline / ship / Eurostar.

They probably only check to see if there's an arrest warrant out on the
    holder.

  7. In which case they should issue them for 10 years and six months,
    really.

And while I'm at it, we need a 99p coin as well.

Coz if they whinge long and hard enough, someone will take responsibility,
    as happened in this case.

But then that'd negate the original reason for prices like that (i.e. to
stop off-till sales as they'd have to ring it through to get the change out
    for the cash-paying customer. Allegedly).

And how often do you actuallly use cash anyway? I tried to just use cash a
couple of years ago - it's a right pain in the arse even for a weekly shop
(well the cash I neeed for beers alone would weigh about 20kg. In notes)

Back in 1988, when the pound note was finally sunsetted, I was stood in a
pub in Sutton (might have been the Victory), and someone put forward the
view that the new pound coin should have had a face value of £1.08, so it
could be easily exchanged for a pint of beer.
