I am wondering why the six monthly strip and clean doesn't include a
    battery check .

you have to be kidding ?
To offer some idea I bought a new battery for the Mrs Foulcan under
$100.00 (500 amph), he said they got $140.00 on weekends fitted but I
do know the price I got was excellent , I would think $100.00 should
have been about the retail on a k100 battery ? considering the material
cost .( it was locally made )

heh, must be a BMW thing.
On the R100RS, some recommended procedures include removing the air
filter, others suggest unbolting and moving the rear mudguard, and I've
seen one suggestion that the best way is to remove the top mounting
bolts that hold the rear subframe and lower the subframe. In most cases
you seem to need to remove or loosen almost inacessible mounting bolts
on the battery carrier. I find that if I remove the nuts on the
subframe bolts and slide the bolts halfway out the gap is only about 1.5
mm smaller than the battery, so I can usually force the battery out
without doing too much damage to it.

I hate changing over the battery.

    I was quoted $162 for a Yuasa and $100 for a Toplite for a Suzi GSX-R 750
from Battery World in Redcliffe. Getting a SuperCharge battery for $50
    instead.

Just remember, bike batteries come empty, you have to buy acid for them
    extra!

stupid Cheep auto sucked me into that, and their battery filler pipette
    doesn't work either.

    fiddling...>

    Hmm..

on 3 bikes it is : lift up seat. Unbolt terminals. Remove battery.
(The scooter requires "unlock seat" first.)

    On the others it's
    - undo battery strap, remove battery. (although on the Devil, "loosen
horn and move it a bit sideways" is advisable.
    or
    - unscrew sidecovers via single thumbscrew each side. Unbolt terminals.
    Remove battery

Although it doesn't make up for 16 bloody bolts to get to the oil
    filter.

Best I could find when recently looking for a K100 battery was something
    like $137.

I ended up paying around $160 {including the acid} for the genuine BMW
one because the local shop had one in stock, instead of needing to order
    one in.

    I've got a 2002 ZX9. I've had it for 2 &1/2 yrs. Still got the original YUSA
battery in it and still running strong.

Hmm 3 of the last 4 bikes were the same - lift seat undo terminals,
remove battery. TRX, Bandit and Raptor. No idea for the R1 - didn't have
    it long enough.

It varies a great deal. I have found that if you make a habit of parking the
bike using the centrestand instead of the sidestand, you can almost double
    the life of your battery.
Has to do with acid levels and exposing the plates. Don't laugh, this does
    work.

Two of mine are pretty simple:

    The first:

Lift seat (two convenient levers), remove side cover (pulls off, no
screws), grab 10mm socket and undo terminals and battery clamp. Large
Phillips head screwdriver will suffice, but one likes the low effort
    kind of tools better.

    The second:

Lift seat (requires key). With the trusty 10mm socket from the previous
job, remove battery cover (4 bolts). Remove terminals and remove battery.

The third's even simpler. What battery?

Interesting you say that. My ZZR has the original battery in it (1995)
which still works ok, but I don't think it'll last too much longer.

It gets ridden every day and is usually parked on the centrestand.

R1 is the same - undo rider seat (2 bolts) and there it is
