<chuckle> Yeah I guess the BACC is right, it's not like the British to swear. JL (I wonder whether the Aussies asked 'em to ban it to get publicity ?)
I, too, am looking baffled because I saw that commercial on UK television a couple of nights ago. And that's plain-vanilla steam-powered TV, an' all, because I don't have any satellite or cable malarkey. Sounds as if the Ockers are trying to stir up an ISHOO to promote "product awareness" and, ultimately, tourism.
Yeah, there were criticisms of it as being a bit crass and giving oxygen to ocker stereotypes(1) It wouldn't get banned here though, we've already had a state govt do a "if you drink drive you're a bloody idiot" campaign... JL (1) they wouldn't be stereotypes if there wasn't a kernel of truth though
In uk.rec.motorcycles, JL belched forth and ejected the following: "Bloody" was one of the first swear words I ever learnt but in the context of that advert, I think whoever was responsible for cutting it out was right, imo.
There's a video report on the CNN site; you have to scrabble for it on their "World" page by now. OTOH, this is rather old... http://www.bushpoetry.com.au/master...eWT/tabid/841/Default.aspx?PageContentID=1211 -- Ivan Reid, Electronic & Computer Engineering, ___ CMS Collaboration, Brunel University.
