Took the "new" wheel[1] round the tyre shop for a replacement today.

Very busy - two hour wait for ride-in ride-out service.

Got a new Avon Venom fitted, as apparently G702s are in very short
    supply.

£98 worse off, I ride home, having agreed to take the "old" wheel in
next weekend for them to have a look at to find the cause of its "not
    roundness".

Pull onto the drive, something about the rear of the Blackbird parked
    there catches my eye.

That'd be a screw head shining back at me from the centre of an AV46
with less than 1000 miles on it, that will.

It's still holding pressure, so it might not have gone all the way
    through.

[1] The shinier of the two rear wheels I have for the Wing.

You do know there's a puncture protection guarantee on the AV46ST, don't
you? If there's less than 1mm worn off the tread depth they'll replace
    it FOC.

I found that out when I had them fitted to the Zed and they're the ONLY bike
tyre i've not yet picked a nail up with. Not that I'm arsed, but if every
other manufacturer offered the same guarantee, I'd not have ridden around
with a plugged trye for 3000 miles last ime.

Those fucking Azaro's will NOT wear out Lozzo and I'm getting sick of
looking at the same tread pattern, and it's your bastard fault :)

Does that just apply to a few Avons or all of them?

I don't know tbh. I only know about the puncture guarantee that applies
    to the AV45/46ST.

I've got absolutely NO complaints about them. Dry, wet, or anything else and
I've not had any scrotum shrinking moments. Even today up at Devil's Bridge
I managed to get around a bloody tight corner faster than a pratt on a
Gixxer though and I was 2 up. No drama, just a corner, but he couldn't keep
on our side of the road and was WELL into the oncoming lane and twitching
about like a puppet on speed.

I could've gone underneath him, but I doubted that he'd be able to ride any
better with his kecks full of shit.

It gets worse. Swapped the wheels over today, and went for a test
    trundle.

    Bobble. Bobble. Bobble.

Surely this one can't be elliptical, too?

    No.

The rear suspension seems a little "taut".

Of course, this wasn't discovered until after the rear end had been
    completely reassembled.

I promptly let all the air out, and had a bit of a bouncy session.
Then I summoned the ballast from the kitchen to add the vital few
    extra pounds.

It will go up and down, but only under severe provocation.

With the MOT due next Saturday, I guess I need to tear the back end
down again, and have a look at the shocks.

I see from their website that a gap of 0.02" needs to be maintained
between the nut/washers, and the shock.

Ho hum. That's Monday and Tuesday night fully occupied, then.

The only question remaining is - how come the suspension seizes when
an Avon is fitted to the rear, but such a feeling is not apparent when
    a Bridgestone is in place?

I think you may be onto something.

According to this: (extremely straightforward GL1500 exhaust system
    diagram)

    http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/200_0346/muffler/muffler.cfm?man=ho&groupid=8940&parent=8860

the silencers bolt to the outside of the pannier frame, but I mine are
    bolted to the inside.
(items 32,33,53 and 49 are outboard of the silencer mounting bracket
    on mine)
The RHS one was particularly difficult to refit. It hasn't been with
    the Bridgestone.

Of course, the Motad *may* be intended to bolt on the inside. Yeah,
    right.

At least it's a quick thing to check - and hopefully a cheap solution.

Go REALLY quickly making the tyre grow in diameter and shrink in width.
    Should be fine then.

Tell the MOT blerk it's a new braking system when he tries to roll the bike
    around and bounce on it.

but then again, no. Well, maybe. A bit. It did at least move.

Fucking bollocking arseing rh shock is more fucked than WC's sofa.

That's going to be A: cheap, and b: quick to solve, then.

    Arse.

I wondered what all that black oily shite was all over the bevel box.
    Now I know.
    It may, yet.

.... and the left one, too.
£310, and three and a bit weeks.

At least the back end goes up and down, again.

Old shocks are locked. Solid. Hmm.

    MOT for this Fri/Sat then.

Just in time for Dieppe. Hopefully.

Nah. There's lots of things on a Wing.

It's a ten-year-old bike, with lots of miles. Stuff wears out.
    a: Hmmm.
    b: Hmmm - getting there.
c: True - it *does* all work out in the end, you know.
d: All problems can be overcome with a liberal application of cash.

.... and now the silencer is back on, too.

It only needed the bracket bending straight, after all.

New tail-lights, with extra indicators, all fitted and working, too.
