I use my gmail account at both ends, but yes, I use email as a
mechanism to transfer data to and from work - only geeks use USB
    devices.

Although using email to transport 1Gb of data files could prove a little
    tedious.

  6. So having a bootable USB stick living in my pocket all the time (with a
bootable copy of Puppy Linux on it) is a bit geeky?

    Anyway - I don't need to use it to move info - I have a network-network
filtered VPN between my home network and work..

    1. That's not official, is it?
    2. That'll only take files of 10Mb chunks, IIRC.

I just take my laptop home. Seems by far the easiest option...

I have no idea. I don't know what your requirements are. In our case we back
the database files up hourly to online off site storage, and I take a copy
of my "in progress" files with me on my GeekDrive for when I'm offline/stuck
    in Another Fucking Airport.

Indeed. USB flash storage, or better still USB hard drives are by far the
most efficient way of transporting large quantities of pornography from
    office to office

  13. I use scp -- I don't have "mail" on my personal computers. I
do bounce mail I want to reference or archive from my CERN account to
    Brunel, though.

A better aphorism in this case would be something along the lines of "never
underestimate what a total arse it is getting any form of inter-company high
    bandwidth network connection running"

It'd be nice. It was far too hot in Ottawa earlier this week.

ICBA with carrying my laptop with me from work. It's too bloody bulky.
And no, I can't ask the company to change it.
