I've often wondered why black is sometimes used for stuff other than
earth in bikes/cars. I'm convinced it's to catch me out when I'm too
    lazy to get a meter.

On Yamahas and Kawasakis it's the brown wire, which I'd consider a
normal colour for an earth wire.

Well, yes... but brown's also got connotations of "volts" due to its use
    in mains, albeit AC.

I like red for +12v, black for 0v and other colours for other stuff.

I've always reckoned that red is the colour of blood, so anything marked
red is telling you: "**** with this at your peril."

Applies to complete Ducatis, as well.

  7. Where I live, Heathrow is 40 minutes by bike. Gatwick slightly less.
Train isn't really an option - train into London, tube, a second train

I don't tend to drive to LHR or LGW any more - too much chance of an M25
    delay and missing the flight.
