Bluetooth helmet kits

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Fraser Johnston, Aug 7, 2007.

  1. Just got a new lid and wouldn't mind hooking it up to my phone. Have a
bluetooth kit in the car that I couldn't live without now and would like one
for the bike. Any suggestions/recommendations/horror stories?

are you that important you need a phone while riding? nice if your

  3. Yeah pretty much. I am a consultant and out and about all the time. A missed
call could cost me a load of money. If I could answer the phone while on the
bike it would be pretty useful. Most of them use voice answering and dialing.

What you need is called voicemail and your telco probably provides it
for you. Isn't new technology wonderful. You can probably ring their
customer service and ask them how to turn it on... but first you might
want to turn on call waiting, because you wouldn't want to miss out on a
load of money because you were too busy ensuring you wouldn't miss out
    on a load of money.

  7. I can drive and talk on the phone with a car kit and it isn't an issue. Not
sure why riding should be any different.

No you can't. (unless you are always a dangerously inattentive driver).

Lots of research shows that handsfree makes bugger-all difference. Its
the attention that you give to the phone that ends up killing people.

For some reason its far worse than talking to someone else who is
    sitting in the car.

Umm .. I'm even scratching my head at that one.. but if it's "not any
different" I much prefer you use the hands free kit in the car - in the car.

Get a bucket, fill with water, drop in phone, go for a ride. You'll feel
    much better.

I use one of those small Bluetooth ear pieces and it fits well in my
helmet though I never make calls while riding, only take them.
Its funny to see people always respond the same whenever the Bluetooth
question is asked. The same people who ride with Ipods and GPS.
I think it is great that you are trying to use your motorcycle for life
rather than just death and also fantastic that your job does not find you
chained to a desk or locked up in some office.

  15. Was looking at that just last night; it apparently has dual BT interfaces,
one to connect to your 'phone, the other to the included headset.

    There're a few limitations to what you can do with certain 'phones though;
their web site gives a specific list of which features it supports with
    which 'phones.

    the big dog Guest

Last time I heard this one in was surmised that the reason for this is
that when you talk to someone who is with you in the car, they know to
shut up in certain situations and don't feel slighted if you suddenly
shut up for ten seconds while you deal with a situation that requires
all of your attention. A person on the phone not only doesn't have
this information, they might not even be aware that you're driving and
not understand why you went silent for 10 seconds or why they need to
    repeat what they just said.

  18. Such a shame their map updates are among the most expensive around :-(

    http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=353&Category=1&Lid=8

    RRP $999
Lowest price seems to be $919, interesting to see some merchants trying to
    sell it for $1025 ;-)

The response to the Bluetooth question I am referring is that they are a
distraction. You do not classify that listening to music and changing
tracks a distraction that's fine. You also don't describe trying to look at
a small screen while riding as a distraction instead of meeting the locals
and asking for directions or looking at a map that too is also fine. But
some people do wish to do more than just play on their bikes like when they
were kids. It could be said that having a mobile vibrating in your pocket*
and not being able to answer it or see who is calling could be a bigger
    distraction.

    :p

*This is just too easy isn't it!
